Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 01, 2009 9:46 pm I know these have been discussed a few times, but I was hoping perhaps for some feedback from people who have gone down the 'no drainer' path with their kitchen sink. Are you happy with your decision, any issues with not having a drainer attached to the sink. FYI I'm looking at this sink: http://www.blanco-australia.com/Product ... 126&id=165 Along with this detachable draining board: http://www.blanco-australia.com/Product ... 163&id=223 Re: Kitchen sink with no drainer - opinions 3Jun 01, 2009 9:55 pm That's the sink I'm having esg! The attachable drainer is a great addition, I'm having that as well. No personal experience yet, bit I don't know anyone that's gone the no drainer route and regrets it. Everyone loves the extra bench you get where the drainer would normally be. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I love it and couldn't live without it. Having said that, I hate washing the dishers and intend on using a dishwasher in our new house. BUT, I think hand washing some items is inevitable and think an undermount sink would be very inconvenient. Re: Kitchen sink with no drainer - opinions 5Jun 01, 2009 10:13 pm Joles - I think it may have actually been one of your posts that got me onto that sink!!! I was searching through the forum, and I really like that sink. We will have a dishwasher and don't plan to do too much by hand. Having had both double and single drainers on a sink, I find that the more drainer space available = the more space for mess to collect Theres 2 main reasons we're most likely going down this path: 1) We're keen on items which are functional but don't take up too much space (in this instance it means more bench space) 2) By not having an attached draining board it means we can put our kettle & toaster in a corner that's not underneath overhead cupboards AND is hidden from view when looking at the kitchen I also like the cutting board that you can get to go with the sink. Re: Kitchen sink with no drainer - opinions 6Jun 01, 2009 10:20 pm Yep, that's how I look at it. I think the area where a permanent drainer is can only be used for the drainer. Where as if the drainer is removable, that area then becomes dual purpose... drainer when need be, bench when need be. gettingThere, this sink isn't actually an undermount, it just doesn't have a drainer. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Kitchen sink with no drainer - opinions 7Jun 01, 2009 10:25 pm joles Yep, that's how I look at it. I think I confused myself But either way, undermount sinks dont have a drainer so I was on the right track LOL Re: Kitchen sink with no drainer - opinions 8Jun 01, 2009 10:30 pm LOL @ getting-there I think not having a drainer at all would be a royal PITA, but hopefully having one in the cupboard that I can bring out when it's needed will do the job Re: Kitchen sink with no drainer - opinions 9Jun 02, 2009 11:26 am Well, I've bitten the bullet and just ordered the whole kit - sink, drainer, colander and tap Saved nearly $200 off the prices shown on the Blanco site as well Now I just have to cross my fingers that they come in quickly, because my kitchen is being installed next week!!!! (oops, I may have possibly forgotten the small detail of buying a sink until this week) Re: Kitchen sink with no drainer - opinions 10Jun 02, 2009 2:59 pm I am getting a Blanco undermount (so obviously it has no drainer). I have been preparing for the adjustment by loading the dishwasher immediately after using anything at all so there's no time for them to hang around...at this rate I dont think my new sink will ever get used I am buying a crockery basket just in case (they sit in the sink so you can stack stuff in the event your machine is running & cannot load it up). I am so looking forward to my new kitchen...no drainer - no excuses to put crap everywhere! - and no handles - no excuses to hang crap everywhere! Woot! Same one as me? NIAGARAU2? SuH I have undermount Blanco sinks, they look really good and I have been putting a t towel on the bench, I don't do a lot of washing up by hand usually. Re: Kitchen sink with no drainer - opinions 11Jun 03, 2009 8:31 am If your going undermount, why not try getting the drainer milled into the actual benchtop or even a set of grooves milled out as a drainer. Looks very snazzy and works jus like a normal drainer without additional piece's need be added on and also you'll be able to keep you undermount setup.
