I have a large Simpson wall oven. Measurements on outside fascia are approx. 62cm wide x 100cm long. There is an additional few inches in the cabinetry aswell. The oven has been playing up, door not shutting problem, lots of heat above unit, cabinets get really hot, making strange noises after switch off (like large zap noises) and I'm worried about a fire or it being dangerous. I have previously had a repair man replace the fan and he said these ovens once the door goes you cant get parts and need a new oven. So rather than pay for another callout I'm thinking it's time to upgrade.
Thing is I dont have a microwave slot in my kitchen and I would dearly love one. Given my oven is quite large I'm wondering if I could get away with replacing it with a smaller one, doing some DIY cabinetry to put in a separating shelf and then have a spot for the microwave (either below or above it, probably below??)
Has anyone ever done this? I would prefer to avoid a tradesperson to alter cabinets as it's such a small job I'll have trouble finding someone not to mention it will be expensive. Is it a matter of just putting in a shelf and a front cabinet strip for dressing to seperate the two units? What about weight of the oven, how is the oven supported, is it needing to sit on a shelf to take the weight? Also how do I work out measurements to see if it will work? Is there a standard size for microwaves?
