Great minds think alike, Thank you all for your help. You have all put some fantastic ideas! We look forward to posting up the finished product. Cheers, Sarah & Graeme Re: Hello all, what to do now..... 23May 30, 2009 8:51 am The first thing I was going to ask was: can you steal some space from the adjoining bathroom? And I see you've already thought of that.... This is probably a no-go, but...is the dining area the only space you have for a table and chairs? I wonder if you might be able to extend the kitchen out, even partly, into that area? A decent breakfast bar could be incorporated with a bit more space, which might suit you to use for a lot of your meals anyway. Of course, that would only work if you have another room to use for your dining suite. To make best use of the space you have, have you looked at some of the pull-out fittings you can buy for kitchen cabinets? Pull-out pantry shelves, corner carousels and so on might make the spaces you have more usable. I'm thinking of the Hettich products, or even those you can find at IKEA: http://www.hettich.com.au/79.htm http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/categories/series/08078/ Re: Hello all, what to do now..... 24Jul 09, 2009 10:28 pm Hey everyone, Wow, how long has it been since we posted?! Sorry for the whole disappearing act... We've both been so very busy with the house and working away in between. I'm actually away at the moment and bored in a motel room, so thought I'd pop in, say G'day and give you guys a heads up on how things are progressing. We decided to go the full hog and take the shower and linen out, this was actually quite fun, and i enjoyed getting the ole hammer and nails out to rebuild the framework for the new walls. Check the pics out Now doesn't that look better!!!! So we've got some painting to do, splashback and floor tiles to be installed, lighting and appliances to do as well. What we would like some help with is the splash back, we have decided tiles but not our colours etc. Our cupboards are a new Laminex colour 'Chamois' and benchtops are Laminex 'Sand Pebble'. All opinions on the splash back are welcome, this is not easy. Our space between benchtop and overheads is 650mm. Thanks for reading everyone, and sorry for taking so long with the updates. Well done We have a couple of lovely arches in our place too (not near the kitchen though), like you had so I'm very interested in what you've done. Good job Re: Hello all, what to do now..... 26Jul 10, 2009 1:14 pm Hi Sarah - Lookin Good!!! would love to see some close ups of the sand pebble when you get back home - i have chosen this for my bathroom & ensuites benchtops and would love to see yours - pretty please i can't believe what a good job you've done - you've ended up with heaps of cupboard space and even the brekkie bar - well done! 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: Hello all, what to do now..... 28Jul 13, 2009 6:45 am Jess09 Hi Sarah - Lookin Good!!! would love to see some close ups of the sand pebble when you get back home - i have chosen this for my bathroom & ensuites benchtops and would love to see yours - pretty please Hi Jess, We can get you some close ups on the weekend if you like, i will pm to you ok. We're still after some ideas for the splashback, its 650mm high and approx 3.3m long. We were thinking tiles, but what sought, or does anyone have any other suggestions? And lighting, whats the best option, I've put in some ES downlights, they're a new 128mm fixed 14W (apparently equal to 75W). But not sure if it was the correct choice. I put one above the sink (this does a good job), One above breakfast bar (not so effective) and one in front of oven/pantry wall (again not so effective, i think). I'm happy to patch up my holes if we need to move/ replace the lights. Thanks guys Graeme n Sarah Re: Hello all, what to do now..... 29Jul 13, 2009 10:17 am Hi I recently had a major problem with my splashback...could NOT find anything in tile that would go with the black bahia granite (laminate!), Then I finally went with the same as the benchtop, it looks fantastic! So, maybe you should go with Laminex 'Sand Pebble'. Just another idea!! Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck! - Dalai Lama A question. Im in Queensland and building a new home. We managed to reach practical completion 6 weeks ago but we haven't heard any date for handover yet. Who should we… 0 5806 This is one of the reasons I decided to go overseas for my double glazed windows.
