Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 May 24, 2009 6:36 pm Hi Everyone Can anyone help please. Just wondering if there are any laminate doors (non vinyl wrap) that look like a lacquered door. We want the lacquered look but want something a bit more hard wearing. Dont want to have to worry about scratches with kids in the house. We need a white colour but also want it to look classy. Also, we are looking at Q Stone bench tops in a white colour. Has anyone heard of this brand. All the other man made granite bench tops in white we have seen remind us of toilet walls. Thanks Caz Re: Kitchen Doors and Q Stone Bench Tops 2Jun 03, 2009 9:44 am Hey buddy, QStone, exactly the same as Ceasar,Quantum,Quarella,Smart,Bisazza, etc etc. Its another engineered stone, not granite. Which is made out of ground quartz and resins. If your after a white colour, why not trying out; Quantum Quartz - Alpine White or Ceasar Stones - (2141) Snow or (9141) Ice Snow or (4141) Ice Cap or (6600) Nougat. You could even go for; SmartStones - (9336) Super White , (9567) Vanilla, its off white this one but its fairly consistent. There is also (130) Bianco Astuto by SmartStone which is in the same catergory. Have a look at a few of these whites from these various company's, im sure you will have a better insite on what colour you really want. Its better to have a good look around instead of making a quick choice then after the work is done you find a stone you would have rather gone for. If you ned any more info dont hesitate to ask im sure i can come up with a solution for you Jeremy@SSP.Stones SSP Stones Pty Ltd, Detailed Manufacturers of all stone materials. Greatly appreciated. Caz Re: Kitchen Doors and Q Stone Bench Tops 4Jun 07, 2009 8:25 pm Hi Ya Jeremy (again) seeing as you are the stonetop guru of this site , we both have another question for you if you will allow us to pick your brains , just a little. Lol What sheet sizes the the various stones come in? Do the different stones have varying sheet sizes? Ie Qstone, essa, etc. The reason for this is our sink bench is 3340mm long and we are trying to avoid joins if at all possible. If we are stuck with 3m sheets then we are stuck with the joins and we have noticed some stonemasons can do some really suspect ( read noticable) joins. We are also hoping that the sheets are 800mm wide as the island bench (with waterfall sides) that we want is 1200mm by 800mm and are hoping to avoid a join in the top surface. I know it's an inane question but thanks for putting up with us. Cheers Rog an Caz Re: Kitchen Doors and Q Stone Bench Tops 5Jun 09, 2009 9:11 am Hello Hello Again Blah, the misses picks my brains more then anyone But anywayz to the point, slab sizes in all engineered stone are very much similar, as all these materials are made with the same type of CNC machine and with a thickness of 20mm or 30mm its very hard to make slabs larger then 3 metres long without weaken'n the product. As most of these products are marketed as the more stronger durable materials in the stone world. I know with ceasar stone and essa stone and quarella and quantum quartz etc etc that the sizes are Around 3040mm x 1410mm , which is pretty much the largest sizes you will get. There is a company called bisazza mosaic's who now have a new range of counter tops which come in 6mm thickness, and i do know that there slabs are just a bit bigger then 3 metres long but im not too sure on how much larger, it might only be an extra 100mm which doesnt really help. If you like could you send me a plan of your kitchen and ill work out the best way to have your tops arranged and where your joints will be placed. Also with your island benchtop you have nothing to worry about 800mm is easily fitted into the slab as the width is 1410mm. But yea, as i said if you can send me through a plan of your kitchen ill see what i can do with it and hopefully you might like what i can come up with Hope that helped guys, Anymore info needed, do not hesitate to ask. Judging by the above, ther is no way to have a 1 piece engineered stone top, but is this the same for granite? Was initially going to look at eng stone, but this may change if it can be done in granite... appreciate any thoughts on this. With granite you will have to look at the slabs you want to use and hand pick them with you stone mason. Being a natural product the sizes can vary in size and thickness, depending on what gets dug out of the ground. Same with coulours and patterns. If you want to go seamless then there are a few products such as Corian, Bellastone and Laminex Freestyle benchtops. Personally, after playing around with one of these products in particular, I wouldn't go near them unless you can polish them yourself on a regular basis.
