Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 May 24, 2009 5:25 pm I'm having a dilemma in how to design the gap between the appliance cupboard and wall oven. I will be tiling around the bottom edge, but am at a loss as to what else. I do have some ideas, but am open to what others would use. The paint colour is going to be Antique USA White so not much different to what is pictured. Something of the WOW factor! Charcoal and white stripes, horizontal or vertical?? Pretty dramatic, not sure if i could live with it. (am i going to be really embarrassed here???) No embarassment, it's in the peninsula so I can watch the news when cooking tea!!! There is nothing to splash on it, it's just a prep/mess area! Sorry it is still messy, but where the saucepan is..is the cooktop. Maybe some of those big letters you can buy, spelling out some sort of kitcheny-type word or phrase? I have seen some cool ones but all I can think of right now is EAT also, is everything ok with your kitchen sink tap? Re: What design would you put here? 7May 24, 2009 7:47 pm I would put top units with gas lift doors to utilise the extra space. Underneath of that, I would paint the area in a darker colour and make a feature of it by using downlights. Kitchens are like finger prints, no two are ever the same!! LOL yes, it wasn't fixed in that photo! All done now. No rangehood, never had one, friends don't have one, just gonna open window!! Judie Thanks Judie, the chalkboard is one of my favourites, but can only find spray on and rather think i'd make a mess of it. Paint on would be better. Wall stickers is a great idea and they can be removed! Fantastic idea! This is my favourite pic...will have to get quote for open shelves, but will take elements from it. http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww358/flang51/rustic201-1.jpg Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck! - Dalai Lama Re: What design would you put here? 12May 25, 2009 11:36 am I think you need overhead cupboards to connect and utlilise the space. You could incorporate a wine rack in to it. Underneath, if budget allows maybe some glitzy coloured glass splashback. You could still put vinyl letters or vinyl pictures over that, but personally I think it's pretty classy being left as a feature in itself. The skys the limit with what colours you could put behind the glass. You could also use coloured acylic instead. You get it cut to the size you need then silicon it to the wall. To write on it you buy a product called liquid chalk, very easy to clean off without residue like chalk. Kitchens are like finger prints, no two are ever the same!! The blackboard looks OK, now I will have to think about how big. thanks again!! You could put downlights in the bulkhead which could be useful for task lighting. I the top was built in up to the ceiling and downlights installed, a couple of rows of shelves would look great, up high still. Bought in Nov 21 at the height of the market (classic).
