Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 May 24, 2009 12:57 pm hi smartpack...here are some plan pics of my kitchen, if you could 3d for me that would be awesome!!! my kitchen will be the "mirror" image as such of this one - i will also give you my plan so you can see what i mean i am still a little unsure on the colours but my thoughts are benchtops: caesarstone ice snow (100% yes!) all cupboards: laminex new graphite (maybe) front of brekkie bar: formica white solver gloss (maybe) from what i can figure the other option is to have the overheads done in formica white silver gloss aswell - just to break it up... i am considering a lovely red splashback... My preference would be to have the overheads the same colour as the base because I think it won't date as quickly. For the splashback, I would use a slightly darker red, maybe a cherry-ish colour. Judie Re: thanksyou smartpack!!! opinions on kitchen colours please!! 6May 25, 2009 8:59 am Do you have any colours in mind yet for your adjoining dining and living areas? Furniture, blinds/curtains, carpets/rugs, artwork? You might want to consider what you already have (or plan to have) in those rooms before you choose a splashback colour that might completely clash. I like the lighter overheads. That teal is gorgeous....but then it's almost a match for my kitchen splashback.... Re: thanksyou smartpack!!! opinions on kitchen colours please!! 7May 25, 2009 10:40 am thanks ladies! i am planning to work with greys and whites (floor tiles will be a grey gloss tile) with splashes of colour here and there for interest... i AM unsure about the red splashback - perhaps I should be choosing a neutral colour and then using accessories for the colour accents? I have also just checked out Mal's carlisle monaco thread - and I am in LOVE with the licorice linea in his kitchen - the other option is to change the new graphite to licorice linea. I think this may work well, it will just be a little darker and is a standard option with my building so won't incure a laminex upgrade fee! the walls will probably be whisper white with lexicon 1/4 skirts & archs, dale & doghouse have this combo aswell I think... opinions on licorice linea? 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: thanksyou smartpack!!! opinions on kitchen colours please!! 8May 25, 2009 11:05 am I would go the dark cupboards at top, liquorice linea is beautiful. As far as splashbacks I was also wanting a colour (eg red) but I think that ties you a bit to that colour with charcoal cabinets maybe go a very light grey on the splashback? It will always look good then you can change accessories as often as you like . Re: thanksyou smartpack!!! opinions on kitchen colours please!! 9May 25, 2009 2:45 pm I'd be careful with the red splashback (she says but is determined to have one herself), with the greys, a softer colour may be better? Maybe a light smokey colour? If you are deadset on the red, you will have to choose the exact right one as there are many shades. Maybe a nice whitish glass splashback? Love the rest of it though (and I am not a grey person, but yours looks lovely). www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: thanksyou smartpack!!! opinions on kitchen colours please!! 10May 25, 2009 2:57 pm thanks bluesteel and the max i think the licorice linea may be the way to go i'm not dead set on the red splashback the max, so maybe i am better to choose a lighter neutral colour (otherwise i might hate the splashback when the house is built ) you're right, there is soooo many reds out there! what red have you chosen for your splashback p.s. i have also just decided to have whisper white for walls, skirts, archs and celings (if the builder will let me ) lildutchgringo's pics are great! 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: thanksyou smartpack!!! opinions on kitchen colours please!! 11May 25, 2009 11:00 pm Hi Jess, My only suggestion glass overhead cupboards with metallic silver/grey edges/frames otherwise the white ones will look fine! The 'New Graphite' has a really nice subtle vertical grain that looks stunning in a larger sheet. Combined with the whites/silvers, as well as Ice Snow Ceaserstone, I think you're on a winning combo. I'm slightly jealous... OK... VERY jealous about the Ceaserstone - that's exactly what I wanted, but budget wouldn't allow Instead, I'm making do with Laminex DiamondGloss. I'm going to throw an idea out there... and don't freak out.... but I would go for a black glass splashback (running all the way up behind the rangehood as Smartpack pictured). Or maybe an extremely dark Charcoal colour. Keeping the overheads in the lighter colour, I think it would look great. But I'm a guy, and we all know that us guys are sometimes 'colour-challenged' Re: thanksyou smartpack!!! opinions on kitchen colours please!! 14May 26, 2009 8:41 am pharley I think your original colour selections are fab-u-lous !!! Yeah, I'm sticking with standard builder's range 400mm x 100mm white hi-gloss tiles for the splashback. Going for a light kitchen with contrasting Licroice Linea. Depending on how it looks, I'm thinking of painting a wall black or dark charcoal (saw a similar theme in an UrbanEdge display home). The great thing about your kitchen is you could choose practically ANY colour tile/s for the splashback and it would look great. Whether it be a plain colour (like white) or a more vibrant colour (like red), it's going to work really well with the combination of white and new graphite. Another option is to go for a third colour in that section... Laminex Stringybark... Bec & Craig's house shows it off beautifully... http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13096&p=218713&hilit=stringybark#p218713 I've heard that the aluminium doors are generally quite expensive when done through a volume builder and friends building through EB said they got a better price to do after handover. Tiled splashbacks... its just so hard choosing the right tiles (my current dilemma)... currently thinking of these http://www.southerncrossceramics.com/Details/B733_detail.htm but maybe these would suit you better.. http://www.southerncrossceramics.com/Details/Vista_detail_C283.htm - no idea on cost...
