Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 May 18, 2009 10:05 pm We are moving into our new place next week and we have a fridge dilemma. About 2 months ago we bought a new fridge, then a month after that we bought a new house. Seems to be a common problem, but the fridge doesn't fit the cavity. We have gone back and forwards on do we sell it or try and make it fit. We haven't been able to find a replacement fridge that we are happy with so this week we are thinking we will try and make it fit, but we just don't know if it will work. Basically, we need an extra 10cm to be comfortable. There is a wall that we need to trim back to the right of the fridge and we are thinking if it is a load bareing wall we will replace the beam with a pole (as has been done in the open plan areas in the lounge room) and the wall with a piece of frosted glass (to match what we have on either sides of the front door). The biggest problem is the cabinet above the fridge is connected to the wall - so if we do replace with glass there will be a gap. And we possibly need that wall for the cabinet to be attached to (or is it ok just attached to the back wall?) Anyone make any sense of what I am saying?!! Here is a pic to give you an idea... thoughts? 744_1049218_20090325133549_5_lg.jpg Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Can this be done? 2May 18, 2009 10:13 pm The fridge over head would be fine against only the back wall only but you'll have to probably screw a few more holes in to make sure it's not going to budge. The problem being you will need a new end gable on the overhead so you'll have to match the existing colour otherwise the raw end up the cabinet will be seen. Re: Can this be done? 4May 18, 2009 10:28 pm New fridge.....or I would alter the cupboards not the wall - extend overheads ie new doors and maybe make the unit next to fridge narrower with one door - would be cheaper than structural changes. Re: Can this be done? 5May 18, 2009 11:00 pm there will most likely be a filler panel between the cabinet and the wall, so you could just remove this and there will be a gap between the new glass and the cabinet, but it would be a cleaner finish than leaving it there. But personally I would just get a new fridge. Built with Bentley homes in Doreen All moved in Dec 2009 Now for the garden! Problem is we just cannot find a new fridge that we are happy with - we like the one we have! We are going to take the new fridge to the new house and get a builder to give us a quote and then go from there. I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 15265 Depends what you're current inclusions are, but we're not including wardrobes and will just use second hand ones until we can save later on to get them built.
