But if it's a choice between two not-exactly ideal layouts, I'd take the second one. The kitchen in our rental had BOTH design flaws. Traffic straight through the middle of the kitchen, between cooking area and sink/preparation area, plus another walk-through from family room to kids' bedrooms and bathroom, past the pantry. Add in my personal chef, who is incapable of shutting a cupboard door, and it was total freaking chaos. < -- that's to prevent the deluge of bad words that are trying really hard to escape my mouth at the mere memory. To get from the dining to the living is through the kitchen. What am I not seeing? Sorry, just had relies from Sydney call in. Both kitchens have accesses to the other rooms other than using the kitchen as a walk through. So I don’t see the issue with that. Even though I know, no one will walk around, they never do.
