Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 May 13, 2009 10:24 pm Ok, so we're going with a fairly traditional feel in our kitchen. Since we're a couple of weeks away from the kitchen being installed, I need to start seriously thinking about the splashback. I think my main options are: 1) glass splashback 2) tile splashback with stainless steel behind the cooktop But I'm undecided. I figure glass will be SO much easier to mantain, but not sure if it will look out of place in our kitchen Door style is "rachel with lines" Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Door colour "ash designer white" Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Benchtop "smoke granite" diamond gloss Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Floors are slate & we're having titan rail handles on all draws/cupboards Basic overview of the kitchen layout (there's been some minor changes since this drawing was done - such as moving the microwave and making the island longer). Door & hand profiles are not accurate, nor is the house layout - so with all that in mind, this is the basic placing and layout of our kitchen cabinets! I'd also consider a bulkhead over the lot with a flyover above the canopy. Run the glass to the flyover. Also, make sure you have power to your island. After a while your kettle, toaster, electric fryingpan and pretty much anything else that you use to cook on your b/top will also cook your doors. Those vinyl doors have a 7 year warranty (I'm pretty sure) that covers almost everything except heat damage. Have you installed this yet? Have a look at Crea Style AR+ range, something like Perlato. Re: Splashback advice.... 5May 15, 2009 11:00 pm Thanks for the feedback Hmmm... not so sure I'm keen on the green tinge glass splashback... maybe something with a soft tone to it rather than the green tint (is that possible?) boobalator (love the name! haha), no we haven't got the kitchen installed yet - but it's all ordered and should be in within the next few weeks. So definitely too late to change any materials etc. Regarding power to the island, because it's a reno I couldn't get power through the floor without ripping up the slate (well, I had to do that anyway for the plumbing pipe and didn't even think about reconsidering my plan for powering the island!).... anyway, my plan is to have a row of lights that hang down on chains above the island - and have a power point on either end of the lights. I have thought a bit about how we'll manage the kettle etc with regards to the overhead cupboards. I was hoping that if we make sure we pull the kettle out from under the overheads that it wont be so much of an issue. But maybe I'm dreaming? This is a slightly different angle of the kitchen view - the plan is to have the kettle & toaser in the corner to the right of the sink. Maybe I should get a extra power point slightly closer to the sink so they don't end up right in the corner under the overhead? We have an appliance cupboard, but I don't run the toaster in the cupboard. Even my kids know better. Pull it out, put it back when you're finished. Easy! Re: Splashback advice.... 7May 16, 2009 6:40 pm That's a good suggestion, but, we're talking about vinyl wrapped doors here. You REALLY need to be OVER cautious. I think that if those 3D's are a good representation you should be o.k. Have you been quoted clear float glass or starphire? If starphire, you can put pretty much any colour behind it. The best way to do it is to wait till the kitchen is installed then when they come to measure for the glass go through some colour ideas with the galss man. They would have seen heaps of combos, I often suggest this when ustomers are unsure. Re: Splashback advice.... 8May 29, 2009 8:45 am I realise this thread is a little old now and my question is off topic but can I ask what program you use to do the 3d layouts. My wife and I are currently getting quotes and designs for a new kitchen in our house and I would love to play around with a program myself to draw up some ideas and then show them around to get ideas!? Thanks. Brett Re: Splashback advice.... 9May 29, 2009 9:32 am Howdy Those 3D's are from the kitchen company I'm going through. However, when doing the planning I used the IKEA home planner tool (you can download it for free from their site). It restricts you to only their products, but at least it gives you a bit of a feel for how the kitchen will look. For example - here's one of the designs I did with the IKEA tool. This avoids that green tint from standard glass which can sometimes prove a shock to people with a white kitchen if they are not cluey about the diff between standard and low iron glass. From go to whoa they install w/i 12-13 working days. I was quoted just over $1600 for a splashback 1m x 3m with one cut out. boobalator Have you been quoted clear float glass or starphire? If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time. At 17m long you need it… 1 15589 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder.
