We are going soft close because we have two small children who love to slam things shut. This way they won't be able to make our ears ring with the slamming (we are also putting soft close toilets in their ensuites for the same reason ). Metal sides are good from my understanding if you need heavy duty drawers - ie large pot drawers that are going to contain saucepans / crockery etc. Some of our boxed drawers will not be metal sided however these are for my tupperware so will not be supporting huge weight loads.
