Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 29, 2009 10:12 pm Our recipe books (and there's lots of them) have always been on display on the bench because there was never anywhere else to store them. Now the new kitchen is designed and being made I was thinking about making a small change (cabinet maker says its ok for a day or so!) and having like an open shelf to store the recipe books so they are sorta on display but not. Where does everyone else store their recipe books and do you like them on display? Re: Where do you store recipe books? Display or not. 2Apr 29, 2009 10:15 pm I'll have an open shelf at the top of the appliance cupboard. I find if I can see them I think of things to cook. I don't really use recipes much though... I tend to look at the recipe then.... improvise. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Where do you store recipe books? Display or not. 3Apr 29, 2009 10:19 pm I have loads of recipe books but have them all away in a cupboard as I have a very plain kitchen. The only one I have on display is Delia Smith's new Complete How to Cook. It's grey. Re: Where do you store recipe books? Display or not. 5Apr 29, 2009 10:25 pm Depends on how you usually use them If you use them for inspiration they might fit better in the living area or somewhere you might leaf through them thinking of something to cook Or if you regularly use them to cook you can keep them in the kitchen where they are easily accessible Re: Where do you store recipe books? Display or not. 6Apr 29, 2009 10:35 pm I, like Joles, will have an open shelf above the wall oven tower and fridge space. I have some other things to go on this shelf too, so if the recipe books don't fit, they'll probably go on a shelf in the pantry! I don't have that many, and are mainly for decorative purposes!!! I hardly ever use them anyway! The best recipe 'book' in my opinion is Google!! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Where do you store recipe books? Display or not. 10Apr 30, 2009 10:26 am I keep mine in a pull out plastic tray thing in a kitchen cupboard, some are books or magazines or just bits of paper , some are very well used, dog ears, remnants of previous cooking etc - very useful collection it is but display material it is not! http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p53/noraz_03/Emoticons/cooking.gif Re: Where do you store recipe books? Display or not. 11Apr 30, 2009 11:50 am I have a wall oven with a microwave space above, I requested there to be another microwave space added in on top as well. It was just using unused hollow wall space. I put the recipe books I use most often in a basket in there that I just pull down to access. The ones I don't use as much are in a storage cupboard tub. The extra space works well for a cordless phone extension, and anything I want to store high away from the kids. I just had thought, I'm quite tall so I don't have any problems accessing this high shelf but may be not so practical if you're not....?? Re: Where do you store recipe books? Display or not. 12Apr 30, 2009 6:17 pm What I think is always nice and what I am having in my kitchen is two glass cabinets one on either side of the rangehood displaying books and a nice vase or something. That way they are away from being damaged but still on display. Re: Where do you store recipe books? Display or not. 13Apr 30, 2009 6:20 pm Oh Helyn you need one of these, I love mine! I keep all my "ripped of magazine, written on a bit of paper" recipes in it! http://www.kikki-k.com.au/catalog/categ ... niser.html I was thinking of having an open shelf thing at the end of my bench for recipe books. Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Where do you store recipe books? Probably over my laundry shute in a folder holder thingy, I have a couple of shelves in there. Re: Where do you store recipe books? Display or not. 16Apr 30, 2009 7:14 pm Our new house has the space for a large double fridge but we don't have one that big (and are unlikely to get one, at least for a long long time). so we're going to get a cabinet maker to build a skinny bookcase in the gap on the side and put the cook books in there. I like to have them on display but I have so many that they could never be on a bench (I'm a teeny bit addicted to getting new cookbooks even though realistically i will probably never cook most of the recipies... i like reading them. it's gastro porn). if we ever do get a bigger fridge and have to remove the bookcase I would put one on a wall as close to the kitchen as possible. Luckily our kitchen is open to our living area so i can easily grab them to read on the couch and to cook with. Building Emperor Q2 with Henley in Featherbrook stage 13, Point Cook. Display or not. 18May 01, 2009 3:58 pm We had a recessed shelf above the wall oven in our old kitchen, especially for the recipe books. The ugly or tatty old ones went in a cupboard.... Now I have most on the top shelf in our appliance cupboard, so out of sight, with a dozen or so of the prettier ones in the space next to the microwave. And more on the coffee table in the family room....then there are all the cooking magazines everywhere around the house. On the bedside table, the floor next to the bed, my desk, the lounge, various shelves.... Would it be wrong to add an extra room for recipe books? Re: Where do you store recipe books? Our kitchen and family meals area is one long room so I was thinking of something like your bookcase but with glass doors, on a wall space between them. I currently have them in a bookshelf in my kitchen but I like the idea of having glass doors to keep them clean and away from curious little fingers, but still visible. My youngest (20 months) loves nothing better at the moment than pulling them off the shelves and leafing through them (and then standing on them).
