Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 28, 2009 4:15 pm What would your preference be; 900mm freestanding or in wall double oven? I feel like a 900mm looks more impressive in the kitchen but perhaps a double oven would be more user friendly? But not sure if I am basing that opinion on ease of use during large family gatherings that happen maybe a few times a year and if so does that justify the extra $ of a double oven? I am so lost with this decision. Re: Help with oven choices 2Apr 28, 2009 4:23 pm This isn't about double ovens, but same principle. I had the choice in the promo with my builder between a 900mm freeestanding cooker, or two 600mm ovens and seperate hotplates. I chose the two ovens. Apparently most people don't, but I thought it offered more flexibility. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Help with oven choices 3Apr 29, 2009 12:00 am 900mm ovens had a habit of taking forever to heat up and then the cost of running the oven becomes expensive, if electric. You will find gas options alot cheaper to run and very quick to heat up, but will you be using all that space, in one go, all the time? With a double wall oven you have the choice to use one or both of the ovens at any given time. Both a double oven or two wall ovens side by side is ergonomically more practical, it saves your back, and can look great too. Check out miele brochures for examples. Dont make a decision on appliances based solely on looks. Practically should come first, then decide on the prettiest one available! Appliances are what saves you time in a kitchen, the looks just exacerbate a wrong decision:) Kitchens are like finger prints, no two are ever the same!! I understand you will the have two sets of controls but that does not bother me. It just seems like a cheaper way to go. True double ovens not 1.5 ovens seem so expensive so I think I could get a better oven x2...hehehe... Re: Help with oven choices 5Apr 29, 2009 11:40 am You could in theory however I would imagine it would be a safety risk; if the first oven breaks the shelf it is sitting on and smash through the oven underneath, who knows what would happen. Plus you have to have the base oven high enough off the ground to stop young children accessing the oven. This would mean you would need to be able to reach the top oven controls. I wouldn't personally recommend it. I would rather see two ovens next to each other, not only is it ergonomically responsible it also looks very impressive, it makes the kitchen look more expensive believe it or not! Clever storage options below and above will make the kitchen practical and a design eye will tie it all in to look spectacular:) Kitchens are like finger prints, no two are ever the same!!
