Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 27, 2009 2:10 pm Hi everyone, Settlement for my new place is TOMORROW and the man who usually does my renovations is delayed with another job so in the meantime I wanted to get together some indicative ideas on what I might do to my kitchen. I don't like the cupboard doors or fronts of the draws, I don't like the bench or the tapware. Might be a silly question but is it easy to change the cupboard doors, fronts of the draws and the benchtop and how much should I be budgeting for this? Any supplier recommendations welcome (in case he is still delayed). I am in metro Melbourne. Re: Short sharp kitchen refurbishment ideas 2Apr 27, 2009 9:14 pm you can somewhat divide a kitchen into thirds in terms of cost One third is doors and panels, second third is benchtops and last is cabinets. If your willing to change two thirds then y not do a complete makeover. If they are good quality cabinets than reuse as many as you can. If this is not an option then replacing doors and panels can cost as much as $3500 and benches range from 800 to 8000 depending on material (laminate as opposed to custom routed stones or corian) Kitchens are like finger prints, no two are ever the same!! I appreciate yoru advice. Re: Short sharp kitchen refurbishment ideas 4Apr 29, 2009 4:11 pm Remodelling a kitchen is a good way "not" to over capitalise on your investment. Look at your long term goal for the house and that should help determine your budget and attitude towards the project. As someone else said you can easily change doors, benchtops, tapware, splashbacks without the expence of all new. Over the past 15 years in the building industry i have changed over many benchtops without even damaging or removing the splash back tiles. There is a bit of a knack to it, but it can be done. Tapware and door furniture are one of the most cost effective ways to brighten an old kitchen, and is relatively cheap to do as you can buy sink kits that include taps, spindles, outlets etc Hope this helps Ben LEADING THE WAY IN BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION BUILDERSEDGE PTY LTD Re: Short sharp kitchen refurbishment ideas 5Apr 29, 2009 6:18 pm You can replace the doors quite easily, measure up each one and send of some quotes to cabinetmakers/builders/kitchen companies. The cost of the doors depends on the finish you require. The cheapest is melamine doors, then vaccuum form/vinyl wrap, then polyurethane, timber veneers then solid timbers. If you post the sizes on here you might get some very nice people quoting you some prices:) Kitchens are like finger prints, no two are ever the same!! SmartPack did the kitchens for Channel 9's Home Made TV Show I would say both styles you have pictured are steel. The lower chord of the first pic would be a massive lump if made using timber considering the size of the rafters.
