Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 25, 2009 11:02 pm Hi All, We are doing some research for our new kitchen as part of an extension to our house. Today we visited a kitchen designer and had a look at some products. One of them that looked quite impressive was a finish for the cupboard doors and drawers called "Lucido". It is a polyester paint as opposed to a 2 pac polyeurethane finish but it looks very much the same. It is apparently more durable (read - less brittle) than 2 pac and does not have the problem of peeling as may happen with vinyl wrap. It is also cheaper than both vinyl wrap or 2 pac. Has anybody here heard of this product, or had any experience with it? Apparently is has been in use in Europe for a few years now... Thanks heaps! Re: "Lucido" polyester paint for doors 2Apr 29, 2009 3:05 pm Hi Wytehawk, Lucido is actually the name given to the door style by the company you visited. You are correct in saying that it is a polyester painted door, but the name Lucido has no bearing on the actual paint (it's just the name of the door). Advantages of polyester over two pac is that it is that it is more UV resistant - it will fade less, harder wearing - less scratching and overall a slightly better product. With 25 years kitchen experience and a passion for what I do, I have joined this forum to offer advice or at least my opinion on all things relevant to kitchens. I was a cabinetmaker by trade and am now a senior manager of a kitchen company. Re: "Lucido" polyester paint for doors 3Apr 30, 2009 2:55 pm Thanks Kitchenpro, Can you tell me who else produces the polyester finish on cupboards and drawers? I have only been able to find 2pak polyeurethane so far... Also, is it a cheaper product as we were told? Cheers Gavin Re: "Lucido" polyester paint for doors 4Apr 30, 2009 3:45 pm Hi Whytehawk, I am sure other companies offer polyester painted doors especially if they offer two pac. It's just a different type of paint after all. I would ask the company you feel you want to do your kitchen if they would use polyester. Is there a reason why you have chosen paint for your door finish? There are some great vinyls out on the market these days which will give you the same mirror finish as paint. They have come a long way in the last few years and most are UV treated so they won't yellow, heat resistant so they won't peel or melt and finally vinyl does not chip or crack like paint. This is just my personal opinion and I am sure others would disagree, but I am just about to put a new kitchen in and thats what I am going for. Cheers Gavin Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7171 Thank you.
