Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 25, 2009 9:10 am Hi all, My wife and I are designing the kitchen and everyone says get as much storage as you can - this prompted me to think that based on volume what are peepz going for and what works. We have no children yet (would like 3 ) and have nooo idea how much extra space little peepz will need.. ?? Based on the old formula of heightxwidthxdepth how much do you have and is it enough ???? Possible a tricky question * Are we there yet ? Demolition has come and gone ! yippeeee..hang on that was months ago !! come on Mr Builder, dig a hole at least Finaly ! Pantry is almost useless. Would have loved more cupboards but the kitchen company was "charging like a bull to a red rag" Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Kitchen storage capacity - how much you got ? 3Apr 25, 2009 9:23 am We have a walk in corner pantry, 13 pot draws a double linen cupboard right next to the kitchen and 4 cupboards and 4 normal draws under the island bench. this is for a four bedroom house. edited to add we also have a heap of overhead cupboards and a winerack - 8 overhead cupboards and 14 wine bottle wine rack. On the living room side of the island bench it has two 1m high cupboards plus another 4 shallower (30cm) cupboards under the overhang. On the appliance wall we have another two banks of drawers - again top one standard bottom two pot drawers. I then have a separate walk in pantry measuring 5m long by 1.2m wide. This has four shelves in total - bottom two 45cm deep, top two 30cm deep. We have two kids and let me tell you the more space you get it will always be used. Have fun designing. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Kitchen storage capacity - how much you got ? 6Apr 25, 2009 10:26 am This is ours Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Its for a 4BM house. We changed the original to add more drawers, as before it only had one bank of pot drawers and 1 band of cutlery drawers. I love our massive pantry Built with Bentley homes in Doreen All moved in Dec 2009 Now for the garden! I WISH !! Our wall extends another 4 metres from the end of the cupboards. We're going to have built-ins to house : - extra crockery& cutlery( special stuff), vases, etc.... - napery - a pinboard & small desk with a shallow drawer, to hold pens, paper & bills to be paid - board games - large appliances eg Kenwood mixmaster, large blender - CDs, DVDs - pretty much anything else that'll fit We have little or no storage in our new place. Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Kitchen storage capacity - how much you got ? 8Apr 25, 2009 12:56 pm Our kitchen will be an L shape (3.7m x 4m) with a 2.1m wide island bench (90cm wide). In that we'll have a 60cm wide pull out pantry & another 60cm wide full height cupboard (for things like small appliances). Cupboards under the sink and a corner cupboard. 4 over head cupboards, 2 above fridge cupboards and then the rest is draws. So 9 cupboards and 13 draws in total, in addition to the pantry & appliance cupboard. I keep worrying that we wont have enough storage, but I think we should be ok We have a fair bit of storage throughout the rest of the house. 2 bedrooms have built-ins and 2 have walk-ins. We have a walk-in linen closet (1.8m x 1.2m), will have 1.2m of overhead cupboard in the laundry. And a cupboard that is currently being used for linen - will end up being a games cupboard probably. Oh, and a 3.9m long set of draws/cupboards outside. Will also have a sink, but the rest will be storage for outdoor entertaining stuff (plates, platters, glasses etc).
