Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 22, 2009 1:36 pm Hello, I would like to ask if anyone could recommend a service repair for stone benchtop. I have lost my hope with my builder to have this stone benchtop repaired. I have been waited for so long, but no answer yet to come. This happened on the date of our settlement. The last inspection we did before the settlement, the cooktop was not installed. So we agreed on installing the cooktop on the settlement date. After we got the keys to our new home, the cooktop was installed but with some problems. It looks like the cooktop is bigger that the stone cut, and the guy who did the installation use the full force and the stone was moved slightly (see pictures). Having said that they will probably try to blame the installer (unless this was the builder) but the tops should have been cut to the size of the appliance so that this doesn't happen - unless the specification of the cooktop was changed after the tops were measured up. The tops were more than likely installed by a third party (not your builder) and it is in Laminex's interest to stay on top of this. However, in my experience, Laminex might not be springing to your rescue, but it is still where I would start. They would have been joined with 2pac glue and it looks like this was broken(This would be hard to break). Best option would be to remove stove push the top back in place and make opening bigger, reglue the join and put back in place. They then should sand/polish the join so it is not as obvoius on the edge. Re: Finding Repairman to Stone Benchtop 4Apr 24, 2009 5:25 pm Can you take a photo from inside the cupboard under the cooktop. The way a stone bench top is installed is there is a 19mm piece of chipboard or mdf screwed to the carcases first other wise known as a substrate, then the stone tops are siliconed to the substrate and left to cure. (24hrs) From what i can see in the photo's i would remove the cooktop and see if re-aligning is possible by loosening all the screws and try to push it back to the wall, failing this the splashback may need to have the grout/silicon cut at the bottom and the top removed and trimmed then replaced if there isn't enough clearance.
