Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 21, 2009 1:37 pm Okay does anyone know the biggest sized dishwasher around? I am sick of running a dishwasher at least once a day - sometimes twice. Damn kids - why do they have to eat so much So who has a huuuuuuuuuuuge dishwasher? Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Who makes a really large dishwasher? 2Apr 21, 2009 1:43 pm Hmmmmmmmmmm.....I didn't know they came in different sizes, kyt !!!! I think mine is just average size (60cm wide?) - although it does have a cutlery tray above the top rack, so I guess that gives you a bit more room. As you kno, there are 6 of us, and I'd say I run it once a day, no more (and no less!!! ) Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Who makes a really large dishwasher? 3Apr 21, 2009 2:50 pm I also thought they all come in standard sizes kyton. Were you getting dish drawers? Maybe you could get 3 or 4 of them instead of the standard 2??? I am the same kyton, mine goes on every day, it's chockers and I don't know where it comes from Although ....if you have a bigger one that means more of your dishes will be in there, therefore ....you may not have any clean ones left Re: Who makes a really large dishwasher? 6Apr 21, 2009 10:33 pm Yep we were having two dishdrawers and my MIL loves them. But I am just worried that they still aren't big enough. So then I started considering having two ordinary dishwashers - have this things about symmetry on the island bench. Then I though stop being ridiculous!! Then I went back to the dishdrawers but now may have to look into that Electrolux one methinks Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Who makes a really large dishwasher? 7Apr 21, 2009 10:48 pm everything is huge in your kitchen kyton!! Re: Who makes a really large dishwasher? 8Apr 23, 2009 6:54 pm Told you Donuts before - I am a large woman so am having a massive kitchen so I look positively svelte in it Unfortunately the Electrolux one only seems to be sold in the UK darned and dashed as my old Granny used to say. So the decisions are now:- One of the new Bosch ones with the cutlery drawer or The FP Dishdrawers. If we go the dishdrawers we were originally getting the stainless ones like this dishdrawer.jpg But they are rather pricey for the two of them So today found a place selling the ones that you can have your own panel put on it to integrate it (ignore their panel in the photo) - surprisingly they were heaps cheaper then the stainless ones above. integrated.jpg Does anyone have a ballpark figure of how much a polytech panel in gloss white would be? Will phone my kitchen designer tomorrow but wanted to have a rough figure as to whether it was going to be cheaper then the stainless. I did get a 2pak panel made for the dishwasher in the kitchen, but I have no idea what it cost but can probably find out Re: Who makes a really large dishwasher? 15Apr 24, 2009 7:16 am OOh SuH and Kyton, together again in the same thread, this could be an entertaining thread to watch. Only on H1 would a dishwasher thread be considered entertainment!! Re: Who makes a really large dishwasher? 16Apr 24, 2009 7:42 am Hmmm......... seem to remember someone, let's call her Kyton, telling SuH to stop changing things in her kitchen and to make a decision........... bit different when the fork's in the other sink now isn't it?? Yes of course I can. I will make a decision. When I feel like it. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Who makes a really large dishwasher? 20Apr 24, 2009 9:50 am Carmel Why is it that industrial machines can do a wash in a minute and domestic ones take heaps longer. Why hasn't someone made progress here? It's a good point - I have used quite a few industrial machines and have also wanted one in a domestic application. But from observation of how a big Hobart for example works, there are a few factors which are not conducive to domestic applications. The commercial machines need a warm up period to get the water to VERY hot...a lot hotter than a domestic machine will work at. Once they are hot they have such a fast cycle because they use the VERY hot water at VERY high pressure, and the water is one use only. These designs use a lot of energy and water to get the job done quickly. This is o.k. in a commercial environment where a machine is busy for an extended period but less practical for a 1 or 2 washes a day - commercially they are factored into the Cost Of Goods Sold. It would be relatively easy to design and fabricate a domestic model along these principles; in fact I would be happy to take the job on - but it won't be economical to run, the machine will cost a lot and it will need to be serviced on a regular basis. I think flow through gas hot water heating and a small compressor similar to a pressure water cleaner would work well in this context. Trading away any of the above traits will compromise the overall efficacy of the original concept, but I would still enjoy the brief. Just let me know when you are ready to begin the design development phase and make sure you have at least four zeros (preferably five) after the "1" in your budget. I'm sure that there will be enough people who would enjoy having this sort of design as much as you or I would and if you can get enough interest it might almost be affordable.
