Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 20, 2009 9:59 pm our house plan has an L-shaped kitchen, so therefore have one of those 'fall into' corner cupboards. We are trying to think of ways to best use the space - is there something we can do during construction to make this a more useful area. We have thought of putting on one of those hinged doors, but not 100% keen on this idea. So of course we are now curious as to what others have found helpful in making this space more easy to use. Re: corner cupboards 2Apr 20, 2009 10:26 pm Hinged dooor on the corner cupboard or a false panel/hidden door on the opposite side if its not against a wall or anything. I much prefer the corner cupboard as it allows you to utilise SO much space! Otherwise, if you take a look at the website in my link, the white kitchen has a hidden cupboard Far left on the island Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Re: corner cupboards 3Apr 20, 2009 11:14 pm we had a hinged cupboard in our last house. it worked really, really well. the cabinet maker was not happy to do to though. we had a piano type hinge. he kept grumbling that it wouldn't last. but we sold after 18 years and it was still fine. I'm betting our new cupboard which has an ordinary corner cupboard will be pretty sad in comparison. the other alternative is to see if you can arrange a cupboard on the other side to utilize the area. Re: corner cupboards 4Apr 21, 2009 2:21 pm Its a completely different cupboard construction, perhaps thats why he wasnt happy? Re: corner cupboards 5Apr 21, 2009 3:41 pm he may not have been happy but we paid extra for it. I also asked him to do a couple of other specific things. He wasn't happy about them either. One he did ( shaving type cabinet in bathroom), one he didn't ( adapted shelving for previously mentioned corner cupboard. The builder. a small builder allowed us to have direct contact and meetings with the cabinetmaker for the kitchen so that the design suited us. We wanted a particular style of cabinet for our bathroom. we'd renovated in our previous hosue and had bought a cabinet which was no longer able to be bought so we want him to make one. He complained because we wanted the 2 cabinet doors to have a mirror on the front. He tried several times to talk us out of it because "it was difficult". i wouldn't budge. We knew it wasn't that difficult having had the same cabinet in our last house. I was going to look at getting the same style cabinet for our new house. Still deciding but this time we'll have to find a cabinet maker after handover. . Re: corner cupboards 6Apr 21, 2009 6:04 pm We have an L shaped kitchen and I chose to have a bank of drawers in the corner. I saw it on the Blum website. I only have drawers in my kitchen so didn't want to go for the cupboard look. Of course we've lost some space but we have a rather large kitchen with a fairly large walk in pantry so I didn't mind. In the house I grew up in we had the corner cupboard with a 'lazy susan' in it. OK but so fiddly to get things in and out of especially if something was tall and caught on the top of the cupboard.
