Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: what is the best flooring for a kitchen? 21May 15, 2009 11:26 am We are having Kardean vinyl planks put in our new house everywhere except tiles in wet areas, and carpet to bedrooms and rumpus. I loved them when i saw them and we have chosen "Hickory Pine". We found it hard choosing a colour because we have chocolate brown furniture and our kitchen will be all white so i think it will look great. Re: what is the best flooring for a kitchen? 22Jun 19, 2009 11:33 pm Well we went with lino, which probably worked out to about half the cost of tiles, especially by the time you factor in dearer underlay for tiles, and tile adhesive. I put it in a couple of days ago, and the kitchen cabinets arrived yesterday, and the installers finished this afternoon... Some time after they left, I noticed there were about half a dozen scratches of varying lengths (5cm up to 40cm) scattered in various places on the brand new lino floor, and just assumed they were smudges from the rubbish generated from installing the kitchen, but they don't wash or rub off... I can only assume the installers made them when they moved the cabinets around the floor or turned them over after putting the feet on them. Initially I wasn't particularly worried about it, as the lino is a low-sheen finish, and you need to be standing in a particular location, looking at the right angle with the light opposite to notice, but another day has passed and I can really notice the scratches... I called the installer today and he denied causing the damage, stating that the cabinets were heavy, and due to the sharp edges, would've cut the lino if they'd dragged them across it, and had even suggested the delivery guys had caused the damage, but I said I had watched the deliverers carry and place two of the largest cabinets in the middle of the floor without dragging them across the floor, so it wasn't caused by them. Also, the scratches are too random to be caused by cabinets placed in the centre of the floor. He suggested I contact the place I bought the lino from to see if there is a product which will repair the "bruises" as he called them. I mentioned to him that I was concerned I'd damage the lino when I was installing the dishwasher as it has sharp metal feet, however there were no marks left after I'd slid it in place (I placed cardboard under the back feet on the second attempt, as I couldn't get it all the way in due to the friction). I've searched the net and the only fixes I've found involve colour-matching paint, or cutting the damaged section out and replacing it with an offcut using epoxy or some other adhesive, both of which are unsatisfactory options - it would be much easier and quicker to replace the whole floor. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how I can repair these bruises? I will be calling the lino shop and also the kitchen company tomorrow...
