Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 18, 2009 11:11 pm I had the builder remove all splashback tiling in the kitchen because I am having my own glass splashback installed. This is the colour scheme of my kitchen and what it looks like. I have a a couple of ideas in mind - one would be to have the splashback end around the height of the rangehood so that I could later have overhead cupboards put in, or have the splashback extend all the way up. I'm wondering since I have these particular laminate colours, how is it going to work with installing my own overhead cupboards later? What type of cupboard could I install that would work with the colour scheme? And probably my most important question that needs to be answered, what colour glass for the splash would you suggest, especially if I was to install overhead cupboards. I'm guessing that if was to choose a particular colour glass for the splashback, I'd need to stick with that colour for the overheads. For example, if I went with a black glass then the overheads should also be black. Suggestions please! I would then choose a basic colour for the splashback - a light shimmery silver/white, a light sandy colour....nothing to outrageous because your benchtops and cupboards already have a bit going on. Good luck, I'm sure someone better with colours will come along and give you better advice My karma ran over your dogma Re: Suggestions on the splashback and overhead cupboards 3Apr 19, 2009 3:13 pm Thanks. You're right, the cupboards are much darker than what you'd think looking at the sample. Originally I was going to do that colour for the benchtops and the lighter colour for the cupboards but thought it might end up too dark, which turned out to be a good decision to make because I have a very large island bench and it really would have been too dark. I thought of choosing a bold colour for the splashback to really stand out (for example, like a ruby red) and lift the steely tones, but then it would make it much harder to find suitable overheads. So for now light and white is sounding good. Built with Commodore Homes - The Fusion completed April 2009 (with modifications) Yes I have moved! That way you can have a bit of colour thoughout but making it quite interesting? There's so much out there at the moment (we just spent the weekend looking!) that it's so hard deciding on one! If you go a mosiac, that way you can then stick to the same overheads as you have below or maybe even have the benchtop colour as your overhead? I want it to be just one flat smooth surface to wipe over clean. My aunt has mosaic tile splashback, it does look very nice though. But if you do cook it makes it a lot easier than having to clean between the grout. Built with Commodore Homes - The Fusion completed April 2009 (with modifications) Yes I have moved! If you choose acid etched glass doors then have the splashback to match, white backing on clear glass! If not, have a coloured splashback instead, it will all go and look spectacular especially if you get lights put inside the units Kitchens are like finger prints, no two are ever the same!! I'm not exactly sure of what you're suggesting, but are you saying to have a clear glass splashback with the white ball behind it? If I get a coloured splashback I'm just worried about it clashing with the colour of the cupboards or there being too many colours.
