As a plumber I remove far more of them than I've ever installed. As the blades age, they become blunt and tend to not grind as they should and that means that they tend to pass gunk into the waste line that can block it. the motors tend to burn out easily and if you have children, they like to drop spoons and things down them which tends to do them no good. last time i priced them, i think it was about $320 for the cheapest model......but that might be wrong. Re: Insinkerator costs??? 3Apr 20, 2009 9:31 am Thanks for the heads up!!! Didn't even think about that - we had one in a house we rented for 12months and absolutely loved it but if we're thinking of something that we're going to use for many years... then we might have to re-consider. Just the thought that one of kids might get there fingers caught in it terrifys me. Also I have seen people who have them and hate them, as the blades are blunt etc. Re: Insinkerator costs??? 6Apr 21, 2009 4:45 pm We've got one (came with the apartment) and we want it removed. It's not all that bad, but we had to find a special large plug to cover it as we didn't like seeing this gaping hole in the sink, as well as the fact we've now got 6 month old kittens who are into everything and it'd be just a nightmare if one of them put a paw down there and somehow it switched on! It also takes up considerable room under the sink, which we could really use for other things. The only good thing is when I can't be bothered scraping food scraps into the bin I just throw 'em down the hole and flick a switch. lol *lazy* (it tends to smell sometimes too) How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this. Most of Perth has class A (sandy soil), except for some areas near rivers or hills. 2 13091 Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering.
