Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 14, 2009 4:29 pm Hi everyone, Just wanting to know what the distance is between your island bench and the rest of your kitchen. I am asking this with one eye closed - I'm not sure if I need to know the answer to this as I may be completely wrong and may have stuffed up my kitchen - I hope not. Anyway, we have an L-shaped kitchen with an island bench in the middle. The island is 2100 x 1200, so fairly large and no sink/cooktop on it. When planning the kitchen I came up with the distance of 1200 between the island and the other worktop. Is 1200 too much? I hope not - and if so I hope I have time to change mine! Thanks very muchly.... Jilly Re: Island worktop question 3Apr 14, 2009 5:45 pm yay! another tape measure question I have 1500 between my back wall bench and my front bench, it is a u shape kitchen, not an island bench as such, and there is nothing on the front bench. I seem to remember one of the kitchen guys answering this quesion before and they recomended minimum and maximum distances - obviously you want them far enough to be able to move easily between them but close enough to be part of same working area. Of course, I cant actually remember anything useful, like what the distances were Re: Island worktop question 4Apr 14, 2009 6:06 pm I would recommend min. 1000mm, max. 1500mm. Cheers, Earl Re: Island worktop question 5Apr 14, 2009 6:33 pm Thanks guys So Earl - I'm in the range then? And that 1200 of mine is from edge of bench to edge of bench - (Floor space of 1200 I guess you would say). It was just niggling at me that space and I was hoping I wasn't really out with it! So Thanks again! DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Are you going to have the frame exposed or are you cladding it with something.
