Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 14, 2009 3:42 pm Hi, Am in the final stages of design, and would love some feedback on dimensions. Currently pantry is 2.8mx1.2m. I think it is a little too narrow. I would like to have a bench on one side, and narrow shelvs on the other. Was also wondering whether I should make the pantry shorter by a meter to setup a small storage area in the laundry for those chunky items like foldable chairs, tressel tables ladders ... hmmmm .... so many things to think about I think my brain is going to explode. Will probably be using the area under the stairs (where COATS is) to put a spare fridge. Would love some feedback. Thanks Re: Walk-in Pantry Dimensions 2Apr 14, 2009 3:53 pm I love that layout. Garage to laundry to pantry to kitchen... with a toilet! Understair storage, coat cupboard.... Absolutely fantastic! I think for what you want, your pantry needs to be 1.9m wide. 60cm for bench, 1m for floor space (to make it comfortable, although you could probably get away with 80cm) then 30cm for shelving. I'd keep the pantry as long as it is and use the garage and under the stairs for those other items. Hope this helps, Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I wouldn't shorten the pantry, esp as you sound like you want plenty of storage in there, and the laundry looks a good size as is! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Walk-in Pantry Dimensions 4Apr 14, 2009 7:06 pm Thanks heaps for the replies. With the pantry, I was just wondering if I'd be able to get away with 50cm for the bench space, 80cm for the walk way and 20cm for the narrow shelf. Have to see if I steal floor space from the laundry, or from the back. I have roughly 9m from the kitchen to the garden. Not sure whether 50cm makes a big difference. http://img139.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=kitchen2l.jpg Re: Walk-in Pantry Dimensions 5Apr 14, 2009 7:19 pm 20cm really limits what you can put on those shelves. 30cm seems to be a pretty good depth for shelves. I think you could get away with 80cm for the space between. And probably 50cm at a pinch for the bench side, but the difference between 50cm and 60cm will be noticeable because 60cm is the standard bench depth for most kitchens and it's what you'll be used to if that makes sense. Are you likely to be in there doing prep or anything often? Because if you're in there a lot you'll probably notice the 80cm distance as smaller between the two areas. Are you having a sink in there? Would you being stealing the extra space from between the kitchen and the garden? I don't think a loss of 50cm over 9m would be all that noticeable, whereas the added 50cm to the pantry would make a really big difference. Depends on how you'll use the space though. Sorry for rambling! I'm very much loving your set up... it's my ideal kitchen/pantry/laundry/garage set up in my dream home! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Re: Walk-in Pantry Dimensions 8Apr 16, 2009 8:13 pm I am encouraged by your compliments and curiosity. I hope the rest of the house will not disappoint!!! We have are trying to think through everything. I must say after a couple of shakey starts we are quite pleased with our latest drawings, and will probably just tweak it a little more. The designs have been approved by council, but we are in the very early stages of putting together the scope of work. So, so far it is all just drawings on paper. We will now face the reality of costs during the tendering process and the start of the internal design process. Overall though, I think our main splurge will be in the kitchen. Not sure if I am quite up to blogging, but I am sure I will be visiting this forum with many more questions. Do you really want to accommodate the window? What is on the outside of the window?
