Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 13, 2009 7:51 pm Howdy We will be having an 'outdoor kitchen' done as part of our renos. Basically because we are completely moving the inside kitchen, we'll end up with plumbing etc on an external wall that's unused - so I figured, why not use it and have an outside kitchen! I've had a power point put in so we can have an outside fridge, and we'll have 3.9m of kitchen cabinets (incl a sink) for the outside kitchen. It's undercover, but obviously still exposed to the extreme hot/cold temps of the Adelaide Hills. Has anyone put in an outdoor kitchen? If so, is there anything you would / would not do again? Re: Outdoor kitchen - any tips? 2Apr 19, 2009 6:38 pm Hi esg, We are doing the same thing with our Al Fresco. We thought about a sink, drain for sink, powerpoints (plural) for anything else you might need later like a ceiling fan, prehaps a double power point up high, TV, music, lighting, outdoor heating etc. Have seen some nice outdoor rugs at Domayne and also some great outdoor bbq kitchen units made of stone and Ceaserstone type tops at Barbeques Galore. We will be buying that instead of bricking it all in ourselves. Much easier. They are very nice looking in real life (the black one especially). Have a look on their website you might get some ideas. What about your lighting? Bug zapper? I'm still thinking... www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Outdoor kitchen - any tips? 3Apr 19, 2009 6:49 pm Ohh, good thinking re the extra power points!! I'll get the sparky on to that when he's here next. Lighting wise, we will have a downlights running the length of the veranda (6 downlights - veranda length is 20m). I think I will be keeping the BBQ away from the cupboards, only because I have managed to catch one BBQ on fire and nearly burn the house down once and probably shouldn't tempt fate by having it in a fixed position against the house All our cupboards will be for storage etc. At the moment the underside of our veranda is slatted wood - we'll be boarding it up with gyprock or similar (something that will survive outside) so that creepy crawlies can no longer own the veranda! I will make sure we get a number of power points put in along the outside wall, and even up on the veranda ceiling - I had completely forgotten about bug zapper, music etc! There's never enough power points outside! I haven't seen outdoor rugs before, sounds interesting - they can just go over paving? And it's ok if they get rained on occasionally (though I wouldn't just leave them out all the time). Re: Outdoor kitchen - any tips? 4Apr 19, 2009 7:13 pm esg, The rugs were in a recent Domayne catalogue in the mail. There were only 3 designs but not too bad. They are meant for outdoor areas and I believe they can remain outside. They were quite big, maybe for under a table or in a sitting area. I think from memory they were about $200?? can't remember, getting old. Also saw these ones recently on the web http://www.rugsexpress.com/alfresco-sur ... 0.htmlrnet Don't forget powerpoints above your benches for things like a kettle or similar. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Thank you so much. This has been very helpful. We definitely wish to settle and get these people out of our life.
