Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 10, 2009 4:20 pm I've just bought an apartment and am wondering if I will be able to take the electric stove out and get a gas one connected. I'd also want gas hot water if possible. I looked through the sale contract and it says gas is connected - do you think this will be very doable? Re: Going from electric to gas 2Apr 11, 2009 8:29 pm Sure it is doable, you're not trying to set up a restaurant equipment, that's why this process will be much simpler. The sales contract says it so, but its also important to consult the apartment's owner as to be smooth things out and make certain about the possible conflicts that it might conjure.
Re: Going from electric to gas 3Apr 11, 2009 10:55 pm It may be doable, but not practical. The apartment may not have a gas service. If it hasn't, then one has to be provided. That means that a pipe needs to be provided from wherever the meter is, to where the appliances are. That, depending on the unit, is your major problem. depending on the design of the unit, it might not be practical to do so. As for the hot water, if theres a balcony, it might be possible to install an instantaneous gas system there, if the hot, cold, gas and electricity can be connected without destroying half of the unit to do so. But if its an existing electric storage system in the laundry, then you need a flue pipe and in an apartment, thats not possible. If there is no meter provided, then you will have issues with the body corporate in installing one. ie they will have to approve the install.
