Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 09, 2009 10:14 am Just wondering if there is a correct distance from benchtop to the bottom of the wall cupboards. how high is too high. I am looking at a gap of approx 720 with mine. Will this look silly. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. There's no use being a damn fool about it. W.C. Re: Distance from Bench to overhead cupboards 2Apr 09, 2009 10:22 am Just for you, Wingies, I got up out of my comfy computer chair and got tape measure and went into my kitchen and measured my distance - it is 610. Not sure if that is standard or not but looks good to me. Any more and cupboards would be getting too high, I can only reach 2 out of 3 shelves as it is - but then I am on the vertically challenged side, this may not be a problem for you Re: Distance from Bench to overhead cupboards 3Apr 09, 2009 10:29 am Why is it 720? I know there is a minimum in order to satisfy home insurance requirements, and also some appliance companies have their own minimum distance in order to satisfy warranty but 720mm seems quite large... Re: Distance from Bench to overhead cupboards 4Apr 09, 2009 10:48 am Standard is usually 1500 - 1600 above floor level, and benchtops are usually 900 high, so 600 - 700 is average. But if it is where your rangehood is, then they have their own requirements for how high above the cooktop they have to be, so that will effect the height of your cabinets in that area. Its totally dependant on what your rangehood is in this case. Built with Bentley homes in Doreen All moved in Dec 2009 Now for the garden! I wont be putting any cupboards above the stove though, so does that mean I don't have a minimum? As far as I know there is no "legal" requirement if there is no cooktop or rangehood involved, but it becomes more of an ergonomic issue. This will make the bench underneath virtually unsusable, as when you lean in to do anything, you're going to smack your head on the cupboard Built with Bentley homes in Doreen All moved in Dec 2009 Now for the garden! Re: Distance from Bench to overhead cupboards 8Apr 09, 2009 11:42 am My overheads are 700mm above the bench top, 1600mm from the floor. We have a slimline slideout rangehood. Happy at Home Re: Distance from Bench to overhead cupboards 9Apr 09, 2009 11:54 am Mine will also be 700 but currently in our rental we have some at 450 but they are only 1/2 depth (if that make sense)...There is a requirment over your hotplate but other than that Wingies you should be fine regardless and I think it will still look very "not silly" Clearly grammer is not my strong point in the morning....Its still morning here. I would need to check with George, but it wont be til late tonight It doesn't have to be 720 but if we go down the road of flatpax kitchen then I need to sit a base cupboard and then a oven cavity and then another base cupboard on top of one another to give me the wall oven tower as they don't have this as an option and I don't really want an under bench oven. So i thought this would solve the problem. Now because the base cupboards are 720 high I would need to have my wall cupboards to match the height. if anyone can think of a better way to do this then I am all ears (am getting custom made quote on thurs next week but with my budget I doubt I would get much for my money) If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Re: Distance from Bench to overhead cupboards 11Apr 10, 2009 8:51 am Your ceiling height might make a difference too - you might want to have a certain distance between the top of your overheads and the ceiling, to achieve a balanced look. And if you're not having bulkheads built, you might want to make sure there's adequate space above to be useable. Hi, Can anyone give me approx. price for overhead cupboards. TIA 0 16607 Bigger the better for storage for me IMO. But I guess it's harder to tell the cost/benefit in your example - mainly the 'cost'? If you go 700mm, what are you doing extra… 2 1002 Found the answer. The recommended distance is .... 1 5988 |
