Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Advice and information regarding window splashback 21Apr 09, 2009 2:13 pm We're in Victoria, building with Simonds and we have a window splashback with glass on either side: So, it's certainly possible. That is a gas cooker too, btw. Re: Advice and information regarding window splashback 22Apr 09, 2009 2:14 pm wonderland Yep, like Bel said, their website would have heaps of pics of this configuration. Here are a few I found on the M website: http://www.*****.com.au/victoria/homes/ ... fault.aspx It's the Arkley house http://www.*****.com.au/victoria/homes/ ... fault.aspx Bel-Air house That's just to name a few. There are HEAPS of houses which do this! P.S. Opps, where all the ** are, you need to type M3tricon there. Thanks heaps for that. I was just working my way through trying to find one! StressedOut Thanks so much StressedOut for that link we just had a phone call from a nice guy at the Plumbing Industry Commission. He told us that it is allowable as long as the window is at least 200mm from the burners and the glass does not need to be toughened. Hooray should be able to have my window! Re: Advice and information regarding window splashback 23Apr 09, 2009 2:15 pm Thanks to you also Djelibeybi. That's another company I can add to the list for my meeting. Have a trawl through the Energy Safe Victoria website and see if you can find anything on this type of installation: http://www.esv.vic.gov.au/ForGasProfessionals/tabid/55/Default.aspx. There's a lot of info there, so if you can't find what you need, I suggest you give them a call on Tuesday. You ought to be able to get a quick answer. The site also has links to the Australian Standards - maybe there's something in there. If you can go back to the builder and quote the appropriate regulation, they'll find it hard to argue. Re: Advice and information regarding window splashback 26Apr 17, 2009 12:09 pm We had our meeting with the site supervisor today. It appears we can have the splashback window! They have been giving it some thought and have come up with a solution that pleases the plumbers. The problem was with the timber frame of the window being too close to the heat source, their solution is to drop the window below the benchline and run the benchtop to the window - timber frame is hidden. We may need a bigger window because I want the window to go to the overheads. We will look at this again later. Thanks again for all your advice and telling me to fight rather than just accept it! Re: Advice and information regarding window splashback 27Apr 17, 2009 12:22 pm Aww FB, great to hear the good news!! Well done on sticking to your guns and getting what you wanted! On M's website for NSW, I think there is a photo that shows what you were describing. It's the Riva's kitchen, page 4 that shows how the benchtop goes 'into' the window. Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Advice and information regarding window splashback 29Apr 18, 2009 9:31 am bel Great news FB!!! On M's website for NSW, I think there is a photo that shows what you were describing. It's the Riva's kitchen, page 4 that shows how the benchtop goes 'into' the window. Thanks for that info bel, that is exactly how I pictured it looking. I have learned however that what I 'picture' is not necessarily the same as the builder! Re: Advice and information regarding window splashback 30Jul 26, 2009 9:47 pm Hi Can anyone give me a link to a QLD site that may convince our builder to do this? They suggested the fixed window as splashback but now are saying they are concerned about possible effects of flame from gas burner & wont do it now! Cheers Kim Hi Kim, we were able to have ours in the end but we ended up having to have the timber sills tiled. Our builders were not concerned about the glass but the flammable window sills. I am really pleased with the results. Cheers Kim Re: Advice and information regarding window splashback 36Aug 03, 2009 1:07 pm We have done hundreds of small return splashbacks from kitchens with this configuration the only thing to consideration i can understand the gas plumber having would be due to the heat but as long as the glass within the window is toughened you will be fine Re: Advice and information regarding window splashback 37Aug 03, 2009 7:33 pm innovativeGLASS We have done hundreds of small return splashbacks from kitchens with this configuration the only thing to consideration i can understand the gas plumber having would be due to the heat but as long as the glass within the window is toughened you will be fine +1 Yes, it's definitely fine as long as the glass is toughened. As ours is. Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Advice and information regarding window splashback 38Aug 05, 2009 8:35 pm Thats great - thanks guys. We are waiting on tender letter at the moment - will hit them up then - this may actually be a deal breaker - they have really peed me off with this & the timber alfresco posts so I am having a bit of a look at some plans of the builders I know will do this to see if there is anything similar. Annoys me we are paying for this house & the builder is saying no you cant do/have that. Thanks again Re: Advice and information regarding window splashback 39Aug 09, 2009 6:52 pm Hi fairyblue, we have the same kitchen feature window as you. We also had major issues. On our contract it was originally 656x3010 and halfway through the head office drama we were told our window size was not possible, that M do not do it that big as the overhead cupboards were not allowed to be directly above the window-they made us sign a variation form for a 545x3010 window which I did not want and was so angry about. Anyway luckily for us we went to visit the Balwyn display and they had the exact window that we originally signed for. I had a meeting with all the top people at M and they finally came to the party with the bigger window (and the cooktop is in front of the window). I am so glad I persevered as the window looks great and is huge feature of the house and lets in so much light into the kitchen. I would keep persevering!!!! If you look at photos on "our tribeca 40" you will see our window. i would not be signing anything on the day read your contract about when builder submits final invoice generally, have to meet builder within 7 days of receiving final… 1 4735 0 4975 We are at the stage on our build in Kilcoy, Queensland where we need to get our fencing installed but we cant get any contact details for our neighbours to give them… 0 6155 |
