Re: Any thoughts/experiences on Laminex "Colourtech" gloss doors 4Apr 06, 2009 8:45 pm That's very good to know! My whole kitchen will be gloss colourtech! The temp accom where I am now has 2 pac kitchen which has chipped in a few places already (3 years old). I guess the catch is the price! To upgrade my kitchen to 2 pac is $5K Well worth it though, I can't wait to see it!! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Re: Any thoughts/experiences on Laminex "Colourtech" gloss doors 6Apr 20, 2009 3:42 pm Hi There, I was looking at the Colourtech doors and I was given a quote of 5K to upgrade to colourtech doors only. ( for my kitchen ). This is of course by my builder. However if I want the entire kitchen n side panels it would be 6.5K. Is that price OK ? If I choose vinyl wrapped doors then it would be 2.9K. I am seeking advice on what to do ? Whats the price per door ? Standard size door ? WOuld it be cheaper for me to change it later ? TQ Sorry I cannot really help since the kitchen folk I have been dealing with either do not use it or charge a kings ransom for it the sample i have i requested direct from Laminex via their website (you can request a couple of different samples from memory). I am still rather taken by it but, alas, it's not going to happen for me. The paint is 2mm thick and i have still haven't been able to damage it. Currently using it as a coaster for my mugs of tea and it's doing well Given my experience of kitchen quotes, that deal sounds good! Maybe too good to be true My kitchen done in Laminate cabinetry is coming in around $10-14k (that's just the cabinets...nothing else, not even handles) Re: Any thoughts/experiences on Laminex "Colourtech" gloss doors 8Apr 20, 2009 3:59 pm we ordered ; drawer fronts for 2 x banks of 700w drawers - 1 cutlery / 2pot for each bank, 6 drawers total drawer fronts for 1 x bank of 900w drawers - 3 pot drawers equal height, 3 total 3 doors for a corner unit all about 350w 2 x 450 doors for a sink unit 3 x 350ish doors for another corner unit pantry end panel and door, both 1950 x 600ish and painted ALL sides 2 x 450w x 350h fridge wall unit doors so a total of 9 drawer fronts and 11 doors and an end panel and that all came to around $1600-1800 in total, not an upgrade but a total price. $5k to upgrade seems very hefty unless you have like 4 times as many doors and panels etc.. I found the same with cabinetmakers though, they all wanted exhorbitant amounts for 2 pack doors.. If i were you, i'd get your builder to refund/not charge you for doors, then order the Colourtech doors yourself from the Laminex Group or Cullitys Re: Any thoughts/experiences on Laminex "Colourtech" gloss doors 9Apr 20, 2009 5:00 pm My boyfriend is a cabinet maker and he loves the gloss doors. He says they look so much better and they are very good! I dont know much about it all, is it gloss vinyl? I think thats what i hear him go on about! Re: Any thoughts/experiences on Laminex "Colourtech" gloss doors 10Apr 20, 2009 5:43 pm Thanks for that Nang !! Initially they said 3.5K and then they increased to 5K. Once you are at PreStart you really can't do much with pricing. You just have to accept whatever they give. If it's a yes.. they make more margin.. and if not.. they are cool with it. I will see how much would it come if I were to order it direct from Laminex. Good idea !! God knows how much would they refund me for the doors ? Having now been in my house for almost 2 years, I am so glad I paid the extra to have colourtech. I love it. It's so easy to clean and keep clean, is lovely and glossy and no 'visible' chips despite having 2 kids. Hubby did drop a plate on the floor which smashed, and a bit bounced back up and hit the cupboard door. It did scratch it a tiny but, but because it's low to the floor and not chipped down to the substrate you can't see it at all. I have to get on my hands and knees with a magnify glass to see it. I love it, and well worth the $5K upgrade. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!!
