Hi all - fairly general question and any advice/thoughts appreciated!
As part of an extension to a 1920's bungalow, we are planning a new kitchen which will form the centrepoint of the addition (as well as the budget most likely!). We are on a limited budget and wonder whether installing a kit kitchen will free up some dollars to splurge on more expensive applicances and fittings ie stone bench tops etc. Here is my thinking so far;
- is there a real difference between the quality of a kit kitchen and custom made (aside from the obvious design elements) - particularly in terms of the quality of the actual cabinets and thus the longevity of the product (I imagine this process will be so painful I will never want to do it again)
- are there any real savings associated with using a kitchen company that will be able to supply appliances at a lower price than a retailer or will any savings (if any) be absorbed in the additional cost that these companies charge to design and manage the project
- are kit kitchens really only for the home handy man (and that we are not unfortunately) and as such are there likley to be additional costs that would actually pay for a custom made kitchen anyway (eg paying for installation or paying for any stuff up associated with trying to install ourselves!)
- any thoughts on using a cabinet maker (rather than a company that will design/manufacture/install/manage/supply appliances) and sourcing benchtops/appliances etc myself
So in a nutshell - we are wanting to save money where we can but don't want a crappy product that is not going to last the distance!
