I've noticed that they are no longer popular and can be hard to find :S Why is this the case? Why don't you guys like Double Bowl Double Drain Sinks? Re: Double Bowl Double Drain Sinks 2Mar 31, 2009 1:31 pm I have a double bowl (full sized) with double drainer sink in my current home and I hate it, hate it hate it. For a start it's 80% of the surface area of my kitchen. It's just under 2 metres long and because of its placement there is just 30cm of bench space either side of the gigantic metal space sucker which leaves me with just 50cm of bench space on the other wall. Ok so my hatred mainly stems from a poorly designed kitchen but still the sink has to take some blame. Whats the point of the other bowl and drainer ?. In my house they are just the dumping ground for the washing up but the extra sink still needs to be cleaned and used occasionally else the drain starts to smell as it's connected to the other one. Sure if I was a systematic person I could perhaps incorporate the extra sink into a cleaning flowchart that would be logical, but for that to work I would have to train the other people in my life on how to use it, and of all the things it would be handy to train men and children to do, a washing up system wouldn't be the top one. Just to sumarise my rant if you didn't get past line one : * Double sinks take up too much space * The additional sink and drainer just become dumping grounds * Still have to use and clean the unused sink regularly else it smells. * Tap is not centred over one bowl, it has to be centred over the middle of both so theres more splash and always using the corner of the sink to rinse stuff. We've noticed that display homes never seem to have them and when we chose ours there seemed to be a much wider range of small sinks to choose from. Re: Double Bowl Double Drain Sinks 4Mar 31, 2009 2:12 pm Ditto what ozkarnak said. But my main reason is...You pay big money for a beautiful stone bench so why would you put in a big, long sink in the middle of it. The idea is for you to see the 'look' of the stone not a sink. I suppose thats why underbench sinks have been so popular. Mrs B Re: Double Bowl Double Drain Sinks 5Mar 31, 2009 4:28 pm Personally I love 'em and I'm probably going to get one (assuming my kitchen project takes off). I've noticed that they are no longer popular and can be hard to find :S Why is this the case? Why don't you guys like Double Bowl Double Drain Sinks? There are double bowl /double sinks available, but as mentioned above they take up a lot of bench space A quick look on my wall chart tells me whats available in one brand 1500mm long 1430mm long 1385mm long Best Price Wardrobes Sliding door robes | Walk in robes Deco panel | Mirror | Melamine 26 to 28 Cottage lane Hackham M: 0402 927 376 http://www.bestpricewardrobes.com.au Trade welcome Re: Double Bowl Double Drain Sinks 7Mar 31, 2009 4:45 pm We've put one in our new house. Well technically it's not in yet, just sitting waiting for my stone bench top to arrive. but we also have another 4 1/2 m of bench space apart from this area plus a 600mm area beside the stove top. We also had one in our last house. I'm wishing I'd opted for a bigger pot sink actually. Cleaning oven roasting trays is such a pitta in them as they aren't big enough. We were todl we could have the cut outs from the sink and stove. ( if there are any) Re: Double Bowl Double Drain Sinks 8Mar 31, 2009 6:11 pm Oh, another de ja vu thread - I think I've been on this forum too long anyway I like sinks with drainers each side and we have one, although it is only a single bowl. I don't know about double sinks but I agree it is harder to get a double sided drainer, nearly all sinks are only single side now. Ours is a u shape kitchen with sink under the window on the short end of the u, there is 4 m of bench space facing into the dining area with nothing in it so no worries with taking up space. Cooktop, microwave etc on the back wall. Re: Double Bowl Double Drain Sinks 9Mar 31, 2009 6:13 pm Love the double bowl, but no drainer for me. As Mrs B said, I like to see the benchtop not metal. I will have a drainer insert for the pantry sink. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. But this one was slightly different. or at least their comment was though our replies are repeats. maybe it's us. Re: Double Bowl Double Drain Sinks 14Apr 01, 2009 1:40 pm I think this is a myth, they are easy to find. Especially if you don't need it to be branded. I got mine from here http://www.renovationd.com.au/index.php ... cPath=5_25 Had to opt for the smaller one as we live in an apartment with a small kitchen. Re: Double Bowl Double Drain Sinks 15Apr 01, 2009 1:48 pm I like the double sided ones as I hate dirty dishes on my bench top, true, you do loose alot of bench space and if it was stone it is a waste.I have a double sink but one of them is just a half size..but only one side ! I hate it.. If I had the room I'd put in a double sink double basin anytime, it does all depend on the size of your kitchen. I'd go for a smaller sized one tho..if you have big pots, just wash them in the laundry...lol Re: Double Bowl Double Drain Sinks 16Apr 01, 2009 2:09 pm I'm used to using a single drain, but double bowl (well, 1 full sized, and 1 3/4 sized). In our temp accom now, there is one drainer, and one bowl I hate it!!! The kitchen is so small, there is hardly any bench space anyway, but all the pots/pans do not fit on the drainer, and have to dry on the stove top ****** on a T-towel! In my old place, I used to just dry the larger things in the second bowl (I'm not very good at drying dishes!). I also find it a pain if you've filled up the one and only sink full of soapy water to wash the dishes, but you've forgotten to empty out the kids juice bottle. Great if you have two bowls, a pain if you don't! I also like to rinse my clean dishes as they are 99.9% air dried, and perfect to do in the second bowl, while still in the middle of washing the rest. My double bowls were used everyday. ozkarnak I Sure if I was a systematic person I could perhaps incorporate the extra sink into a cleaning flowchart that would be logical, but for that to work I would have to train the other people in my life on how to use it, and of all the things it would be handy to train men and children to do, a washing up system wouldn't be the top one. I've had my eye on this sink http://www.smartpackkit.com.au/Content_ ... _sink8.seo and was hoping they could drill an extra hole so i can have 2 taps. I need one for hand washing as per council regulations for a small cake business i want to run. Does anyone think I could have 2 taps with this sink - like one in the middle and anther to either the left or the right? I dont want a big sink with drainer, my benchtops are expensive enough with caesarstone, rather show that off! ta Re: Double Bowl Double Drain Sinks 19Apr 11, 2009 10:38 pm My sink has two outer bowls that are 229mm deep whilst the smaller bowl in the centre is 152.4mm. I prefer deeper for bigger trays / pans / woks etc but at the end of the day 2-3cm isn't really going to make much difference. The sink you showed didn't actually have any tap holes in it - do they come with tap holes or do you mount your tap through the benchtop? If it was through the benchtop then you could have a second tap without any problems. In saying that this home we are renting has a normal sink with a mixer tap in the centre then on the side a filtered water tap - which could quite easily be another normal tap for your hand washing. Some things are worth waiting for. Gosh your sinks are deep Kyton! I have searched my little heart out on the internet (cause I've broken my foot and can't get out there to look!) and cannot find a double bowl sink with no drainer deeper than 180mm. If someone can point me to a double bowl (not round) sink 200mm or more i'd be happy! ta You are fine. The concrete is never going to explode.
