Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Kitchen sink - on the island or not? 41Apr 01, 2009 6:51 am We had this dilemma as well and decided to have the sink on the island bench. For us, having the stove or cooker on the island bench would mean spattering people with our stir fries (or anything that we fry), yes we are a messy cook. Imagine having a guest or kids sitting on the island bench while cooking, they would not only smell the food but they would also feel it. Re: Kitchen sink - on the island or not? 42Apr 01, 2009 10:58 am Reaver, I certainly dont think cooktops on island benches or outward facing benches are a good idea - if the choice is between haveing the cooktop or the sink there, I would have the sink However, I still prefer to have neither Re: Kitchen sink - on the island or not? 43Apr 04, 2009 9:48 am My partner worked on house in Camberwell where the kitchen looked exactly like that. Imagine the island bench top, same thickness but in stone. I was insanely jealous. It was the nicest kitchen I had ever seen. The sink was on the island with those semi commercial taps where it's like a hand held hose but retracts. Needless to say, I try tell my partner not to invite me to check these houses out as I find it depressing. Had I known about that style, I would of had it for my place too. Re: Kitchen sink - on the island or not? 44Apr 04, 2009 10:00 am I agree that it depends on your plans. Our kitchen has the sink on the island bench, however our dining room table is sitting right infront of our kitchen bench as below: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So in the future when we had little ones, they can busy themselves at the table right infront of me with no problem. There wont be too much need to sit at the bench. And that way i can face them or any guests when using the sink. Re: Kitchen sink - on the island or not? 45Apr 04, 2009 4:56 pm When you say it depends on your plans, erinleigh, most kitchens can be fairly easily reconfigured to your preference - for example, it would be easy to change yours to a u shape kitchen with sink under the window,( you have an extrnal kitchen wall) cooktop on back wall and blank breakfast bar facing dining area; that would be my preference, but obviously many more people, like yourself, prefer sinks on island benches Re: Kitchen sink - on the island or not? 46Apr 05, 2009 3:41 pm [quote="gettingThere"]Just wondering what everyone's opinion on this is? Would you have the sink in the island bench or against the wall? We don't have a window agains the wall and we have a big open area. I am unsure if it would be nicer to be able to face the guests while washing the dishes or have the island bench nice and tidy to look at at all times. Decisions decisions /quote] I completely agree with you when you said washing dish while facing guests. That is an added advantage.. >>>edit.
