Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Waterfall bench top 22Mar 26, 2009 7:41 pm does that QQ sample have a little bit of sparkle in it? If so it is very much like my C/S Nova Aurora. The sun shining in on my waterfalls thru the window catches all the sparkles, I love it! It would make such a statement on your bench as it looks to be wider than normal? agree with bel, definitely get both ends done. Re: Waterfall bench top 25Mar 26, 2009 10:17 pm Hi sandy I would def go 40mm with waterfall edges. How you sure Plantation dont do 40mm Have seen it in alot of their displays and we are getting 40mm from them. which house are you building. I am in Brisbane as well. I really like your kitchen color selections Re: Waterfall bench top 26Mar 26, 2009 11:02 pm Re: Waterfall bench top 27Mar 27, 2009 7:52 am Yep definitely go the waterfall but on both sides - would look uneven only on one. Your colour selections are gorgeous by the way. Monkey68 - sorry no photos yet. Piering on home is only just started and am just finalising final plan with kitchen cabinetmaker. Check back in another 4-6mths Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Waterfall bench top 28Mar 27, 2009 10:20 am Wow! So many nice Waterfall benchtops! Thicker ones are are awesome Can they always join the waterfall so it looks seamless or does this depend on the company? I have a QQ Waterfall bench in my unit now and it looks like a table as it has about a 4mm gap and looks horrible Our Blog! http://cityplantation.blogspot.com | Building the Havana 485 with Plantation Homes (Henley) Re: Waterfall bench top 30Mar 27, 2009 11:21 am nang3 - What have you go on the other side of the bench? like the bit that your couches are facing? I have a similar layout (in as much as you can see the bench from the living room) and i was thinking of having a waterfall bench going down the side like you have, but also the 'back'. Not sure if that would be a bit over the top though! I hope i explained that well enough for you to understand Re: Waterfall bench top 31Mar 27, 2009 11:35 am bev, are you wanting to put barstools on the other side of the bench? If so you'd be better off with some overhang. Would still look good but might not have the same impact as if the stone went straight over the side, if you know what I mean? Re: Waterfall bench top 32Mar 27, 2009 11:42 am Bev, as Donuts said it does mean that you can't pull up a barstool to the bench. Also you negate any chance of having cupboard space on that other side (which may or may not apply depending on how wide altogether your bench is). ie My island is 4.4m by 1.2m. The cupboards facing the kitchen side are a depth of 650mm whilst the front cupboards under the overhang are 300mm - leaving an overhang to sit stools under of 250mm. However it does look good - makes the bench look like a giant "box" feature. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Waterfall bench top 33Mar 27, 2009 11:45 am Nang3, your kitchen colours are lovely. What are they? Absolutely LOVE your long handles on the pot drawers. Mine are similar, our builder didn't provide long handles so we did our own, so pleased we did. Is your laminex Polar White? Sandy, agree with all the others. Two sides would look much nicer (and balanced) than one. I think waterfalls do look better on a straight Island but still think they look fine on an L shaped one too. I tried to change my island to a straight one but it just wouldn't work without moving the oven which PD would not do. Not sure if that would be a bit over the top though! I hope i explained that well enough for you to understand hey Bev.. at the moment the other side of the bench is a lovely mix of screws, melamine and exposed high density MDF !!!! but we are thinking of either ; --stacked stone cladding in something light that picks up our soon to be laid black butt floors plus the benchtop and soon to be done splashbacks etc --using a perspex similar or contrasting to our splashbacks --or just cladding in painted panels the same as our doors etc. We also thought about having the waterfall go down the back as well, but after a bit of photoshopping etc i thought it would look too chunky if we kept the benchtop the same width.. and we wanted a nice wide top as our previous laminate one was about 1100 and we really got used to it. I know Plantation does offer 40mm but not for the 'Starlight White', for some reason it only comes in 20mm & 30mm. It's just a small 2 bedroom unit and the living room will be right next to it. Re: Waterfall bench top 38Mar 27, 2009 12:40 pm Bev, one problem with continuing the stone down the rear of your cabinets (apart from the extra cost) would be that you'd lose the opportunity to have access to the corner cupboard from that side. Looking at your plan, that corner is very difficult to get into and you'd have a whole cupboard that's virtually useless. If you add a door to the back of the cabinet, you get full access to the corner cupboard. We did that in our old place, which had a ver simialr layout. Nobody knew there was a cupboard door there, because it had a flush panel and a push mechanism to open and close, so no need for a handle. Just a thought. Hrm i hadn't thought about that There are still tenants in the house so i can't confirm that the corner cupboard is hard to get into. Gives me something to think about!
