Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 25, 2009 1:48 pm Across the front on my island bench we are having 8 Polytech doors and 4 Stainless/Glass doors. Because the Polytech doors are under the breakfast bar areas and the stainless are the main feature across the front I have asked for no handles to be placed - instead to go with push latches to open and close the doors. My questions:- * Does anyone have these touch latches and anything I should be aware of? * Do you know how they are price wise? Would they be the approx same cost as a stainless handle? My kitchen joinery is redoing my quotes up but just want to make sure I am doing the right thing. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Push to open doors? 3Mar 25, 2009 2:04 pm Just have normal doors with no handles. Dont use the push type. If you have stools they will be easy to bump then it will open. It should be possible to get the cabinet maker to leave a bit of a lip on the bottom and then you can use this to open the door. Just use this for the storage items you dont use often. Re: Push to open doors? 4Mar 25, 2009 2:07 pm SuH I have a few push openers kyton, it's a must at the front of your island bench, you want it to look smoooooth, so cost isn't important you are doing the right thing xxx You've gotta love the re-assurances you get on here 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Seriously tho' - am now looking at using the Polytech doors over 2-pack on everyone's advice from here. And as SuH said a seamless look is what we are after (although not sure how seamless that many doors will be ) so will stick to the push latches on this side with some seriously funky knife edge thin handles on the reverse side of the island bench. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Push to open doors? 6Mar 25, 2009 3:02 pm Ikea sell those push openers, $10 for 2. http:www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/70134242 Re: Push to open doors? 7Mar 25, 2009 3:42 pm I saw those push doors in a display... two of the door pusher things were already broken and doors won't close anymore.. also they were white so you could see the finger prints everywhere.. so not my cup of tea.. Re: Push to open doors? 9Mar 25, 2009 3:51 pm Thanks HavingFun. My cabinet maker only uses good quality things like Hettich and Blum so I am assuming that if he deletes the handles then it should cover the cost of the push latches. WBA - these are cupboards which are rarely going to be used - in fact part of me thought long and hard about even having the four cupboards under the breakfast bar area. But in the long run there is never anything wrong with too much storage!! And if I hide them from the kids (ie never show them they are there) then they can be hidey holes!! Some things are worth waiting for.
