Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 20, 2009 5:30 pm Ok so we've pretty much worked out which colours we want to use in our kitchen it's just a matter of what goes where.
I have attached two options. The first one is slightly different in that the buklkhead and wall to the right of the fridge would be painted the same colour as the splashback. In both instances there are pot drawers on the other side of the island and they will be in the dark grey regardless of the combination. The floor is Formica Smoke Cedar laminate which is a silver grey with a hint of brown so very hard to find a matching grey (believe it or not!!) for the cabinetry. Which one would you choose or prefer? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Which Colour Combo? 3Mar 20, 2009 6:44 pm My vote would go for the 2nd picture as well. It just seems to me that the wall cupboards would stand out too much in the first picture, too much of a contrast. In the second picture I guess some contrast is taken off by the fact that the island bench seems to take some of the focus off the splashback, both being a bright white while the wall cupboards tie in with the lower ones, so it's just more balanced in my opinion.
Hmmm on the other hand the longer I look at the pictures, the first one seems to grow on me . . . . . I would still choose the 2nd option. Re: Which Colour Combo? 4Mar 20, 2009 7:08 pm I love the first one, very striking and makes a feature out of the white cupboards. I think your design is stunning ....which ever colour combination you go with.
Mrs B Re: Which Colour Combo? 7Mar 22, 2009 8:05 pm I like the first one. Great use of colour in both of them though! Is that pendant going over the bench or over the dining table? hard to tell. Re: Which Colour Combo? 11Mar 22, 2009 10:01 pm Donuts - the light fitting would be over the bench...not in the middle but on the end. Judie - yeah I think I agree. A lot easier to change colours should we want to. After looking at some more displays today we have pretty much decided that number 1 it will be. It's so hard to match a grey cupboard to the floor so white is just easier and also fresher. The splashback & light fitting will be the feature. Thanks everyone for your help. Much appreciated. Now we need to work on our bathrooms..... Re: Which Colour Combo? 12Mar 23, 2009 8:09 pm number 2 would be my pick!!! I think its still fresh and bright but it makes your splashback the focus in stead of the cupboards and with the few undercupboard downlights MMWWWAAAHHH perfect!! But i vote number one for the fact you can just change the wall color and it creates a new look. Re: Which Colour Combo? 15Mar 27, 2009 10:22 pm I pick number 2....but l think what would make it look better is if you had the centre bit of the island bench (sorry l don;t the correct term ) to match the splashback or similar to it....just so the white is not so overpowering overall....unless you like it that way of course Re: Which Colour Combo? 16Mar 29, 2009 9:32 am I'm not too keen on the bright white of the splash back. how about number one butttttttttttttttttttttt if you made the front of the island bench black to match it might stop it feeling top heavy with black only at the top. it would make your island bench top stand out too. You could also just do a splashback section in black and not go up and around the range hood if you feel it is too much Re: Which Colour Combo? 17Mar 29, 2009 9:47 am Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ here's your photo with the island bench with a black section. If you think the all black wall is too much then consider limiting it to just a splash back area on that back wall above the benches and not go all around the cupboards and to the ceiling. BUT I think it looks kind of stunning with the island bench front in black as well as the full black wall.
