I think the 'work triangle' was designed by time and motion studies in the US years ago - all to do with productivity, speeding up the cooking process. Why? Aren't people going fast enough as it is elsewhere in life?
We're building a solar powered house so energy consumption is a high priority. The fridge has to be well away from hot stove so it doesn't have to work more than it has to.
