More than 90 jobs are in doubt at the Carl Zeiss Vision plant at Lonsdale, in Adelaide's south.
A statement from the lens company states that parts of production at Lonsdale will be exported to China by the end of the year.
It says the company will try to find new jobs for the 95 employees affected or offer redundancy packages.
Last week it was announced the company will receive $1 million in government grants to create new jobs.
A spokesperson for the State Treasurer's office says the grant will be forfeited if the Lonsdale plant closes.
Meanwhile Australian Kitchen Industries is closing its Woodville factory and expanding its kitchen operations in Brisbane, affecting 20 staff.
The company, which trades as Wallspan Kitchen Connection, says workers are being offered jobs in Brisbane, or at the company's wardrobe factory in Richmond, which is also being expanded.
