Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 05, 2009 9:04 pm Just wondering if anyone here would like to recommend a dishwasher to us? I've seen so many that I like the look of and when I search for product reviews online I keep getting negative feedback! I appreciate that its only the people who have negative things to say that generally leave feedback at all... but even so it still puts me off.
So... we're looking for an under bench stainless steel dishwasher for around $800... any recommendations anyone? Thanks in advance! Rach xxxx Re: Need a Dishwasher recommendation please :) 2Mar 05, 2009 11:04 pm Did you look at www.choice.com.au?
They do not accept advertising so they are not beholden to any manufacturers. All their revenue comes from subscriptions from people like me who like to see independent tests of items. And, dishwasher and the like are where they excel in their testing. Well worth while IMHO. Thanks for that - I hadnt heard of them so I'll check it out - I take it I'll have to subscribe in order to view the reviews? Much appreciated Re: Need a Dishwasher recommendation please :) 4Mar 06, 2009 10:51 am pm me with your email addy and I can email you the article you're after as a PDF (I have a subscription)

PM on its way Re: Need a Dishwasher recommendation please :) 6Mar 06, 2009 11:06 am We had an Asko in our last (owner) home then a Noble in the investment property. Both were fine but the Asko was much better - but there was also a massive price difference as well.
In this home we are currently renting it has a Dishlex and I must say that I am really not liking it. It is too small, the configuration doesn't hold bowls properly and doesn't seem to wash everything squeaky clean 100% of the time. This is a brand new dishwasher so is a little disappointing. In our new home we are having DishDrawers - MIL has had them in her home since 2000 and absolutely loves them. She is a really hard reviewer (and I mean really hard - she despises Miele!!) but even with one of them not working for a little while she still rates them the best dishwasher she has ever had. The only thing different she had advised me to do is to have them sitting side by side rather then one under the other - so this is what we are having in our new kitchen. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Need a Dishwasher recommendation please :) 7Mar 06, 2009 11:09 am kyton We had an Asko in our last (owner) home then a Noble in the investment property. Great tip with the dishdrawer thanks - hadnt thought about there being a problem with them being on top of each other - I can definitely see her reasoning though. Not sure its in out budget though? Via Ebay they could be!!! Want brand is your MILs? Re: Need a Dishwasher recommendation please :) 8Mar 06, 2009 11:16 am Fisher Paykel Dishdrawers. The main prob she has with them being under each other is that she continually just uses the top one as she doesn't like bending down to the bottom one. Her reasoning with having them side by side is that you will tend to use them equally. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Need a Dishwasher recommendation please :) 9Mar 06, 2009 2:31 pm I can't speak for other brands but the two I've owned. Smeg (currently): AWESOME. Perfect performance every time and I flog it...
F&P dishdrawer: Hated it. Broke down alot and didn't clean very well sometimes. Re: Need a Dishwasher recommendation please :) 10Mar 06, 2009 2:50 pm another vote for Asko, however I'm not sure if they have an $800 model... I have a Miele now, but I think I prefer the layout of the Asko ... oh apart from the cutlery tray in the Miele which I adore... Re: Need a Dishwasher recommendation please :) 12Mar 06, 2009 3:04 pm I have a westinghouse virtuoso, we bought it a few years ago now and it is fantastic. Very quiet, does a great job of the dishes. we did have to replace the wheels on the baskets as one of them broke but it was no big deal and we've been very happy with it. I can't remember what it cost though, may have been around $1200 but I'm really not sure it was too long ago so it could have been cheaper than that.
some of the basket things you can remove or fold down as well to change the configuration a bit. Re: Need a Dishwasher recommendation please :) 13Mar 06, 2009 8:02 pm We,ve bought an Asko for our new house after checking out Choice on line.
I think it was around $1400..... We move in tomorrow,so I,ll let you know what it,s like We have a Dishlex in the rental that we are currently in and it,s brand new,but really doesn,t clean properly, the only way I can get it to do a reasonable job is if I don,t put too much in it and make sure everything is well spaced Cheers Mel Building on 9 acres Re: Need a Dishwasher recommendation please :) 14Mar 08, 2009 8:35 pm kyton We had an Asko in our last (owner) home then a Noble in the investment property. Make sure you check out the price of having them as separate units side by side - that was my idea too, after recent knee surgery......then I found out the cost of the 2 individual drawers as opposed to one unit with two drawers......I needed a paper bag to breathe into, lol! Re: Need a Dishwasher recommendation please :) 15Mar 09, 2009 8:14 am We had a Haier Dishwasher in our last house and it was terrible. It was cheap and in the first 12 months I think we had 8 service calls, in the end they had to replace it because the door seal had gone and not one of the service guys could fit their hand into the space to replace the door seal. They even tried getting a replacement door but they had changed the style and it couldn't be replaced. So the only option was to replace the dishwasher with a new one because they couldn't fit a seal on a door. They are a big Chinese brand but the one we had was terrible. It was also recommended by choice and that was one of the reasons we picked it. They also rebrand so be careful that you are not getting one under a different name, eg. Tecknika.
At the moment I am the dishwasher so anything would be good. We now have a blog. http://allaboutthebuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Need a Dishwasher recommendation please :) 16Mar 09, 2009 12:31 pm donuts & mudtrilogy, How do you find the 'miele'? Does it clean well?
We have put one in, but have not had yet had handover. The 14 place setting size & the cutlery tray sold me. DH went round to the house whilst the plumber was installing and testing it and he said it seemed relatively quiet. It's obviously too late to change our minds now, but I would be interested to hear your opinion having used it. Its awesome! and the best for water conservation too! We had a F+P before and I would never get one again. The glasses came out with sediment baked all over them. We even tried to use a dishwasher cleaner after every wash and I cleaned all filters and flushed it. Licenced Sparky and Data Cabler If "The Data Guys" is too long to type, TDG will do. We don't have to turn the tv up anymore when the dishwasher is going The cutlery tray is fantastic, means you can fit a whole lot more stuff down the bottom, but the top drawer seems a teeny bit smaller than the Asko and it doesn't hold wine glasses as well. But it's a minor thing really, and I possibly have just got used to one dishwasher and still adjusting to the new layout. I do love my Miele dishwasher and I'm sure you'll be happy with yours! Re: Need a Dishwasher recommendation please :) 19Mar 10, 2009 11:13 pm I can recommend a Bosche. I got mine about 16mths ago and it 's FANTASTIC. Washes beautifully every time.
We are a family of 6 so it gets a beating from my 4 sons and it hasn't skipped a beat yet. I paid about $1200 for it , but I noticed in Retravision last week they had them for about $950. The features I like the most are the adjustable shelves for the really big spaghetti pots. The cutlery tray on the top and the adjustable place setting for those big party gatherings you may have. Check them out! Re: Need a Dishwasher recommendation please :) 20Mar 11, 2009 8:46 am I,ve used my Asko 4 times now and it,s fantastic
Really quiet and the dishes etc. come out sparkling....my frying pan even came out clean!
