Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 23, 2009 9:15 am I was thinking of installing down lights into a new kitchen.
The ones which are under the cabinets above the benchtop. Unfortunately these were not factored in during the installation of the kitchen so we are looking to put them in after. I imagine wiring would be the costly part as not wires have been run for them and we don't look forward to ripping up what we just installed. Anyone have any experiences with wireless (battery) under cabinet lights? Or are there alternatives I have not considered? Re: Installing Down Lights under cabinets 2Feb 23, 2009 10:19 am You can try some of those battery-operated LED lights, they aren't too bulky in size and very easy to install but not as bright as halogen downlights. Or if you have access to a point power on the same side of the wall, you can run a cord to install one of those plug-in undercupboard downlights like this one i got in my kitchen. Do you know where I can get them in Sydney or if anyplace in Sydney have them on display? I don't trust the online $20 under wireless cabinet lights ! Re: Installing Down Lights under cabinets 4Feb 23, 2009 10:58 am Hi vascariz,
The long ones i bought them from Coles for about $10. They also have the round ones too and i think the brand is osram. Or you can try these triangular ones that i bought from woolies and they're about $12 for a pack of 3, cheap. But is there a risk they look tacky as opposed to the proper wired ones? How durable are they and how long do the batteries last? Thank you so much for your help! They don't seem very bright, so I imagine you'd need a few, is that right ? Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Installing Down Lights under cabinets 7Feb 23, 2009 12:50 pm Actually they're lights i use for my linen cupboard, i just stuck them under my kitchen cupboard to take some pictures. If you want to use them in the kitchen you might want to put several small round ones along your cupboards cos light beams in the small ones are more concentrated than the long ones. Also you may want to make sure you mount them securely on the underside of your cupboards cos they're usually just stuck on the surface by double sided tape or velcro tape, and you don't want them to fall into the food that you're preparing! Re: Installing Down Lights under cabinets 9Feb 23, 2009 12:57 pm I have decided to go with the linear light you posted.
Hmmm 1 every metre should be enough? That would be about 2 on one side of the kitchen and 3 on the otherside under the cabinets. You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 9963 Thanks mate.
