Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 19, 2009 7:02 pm Hi all,
Does anyone know how much cost difference there should be between 20mm and 40mm Ceaserstone / Essastone? We have received our kitchen quote today and 40mm is about 50% more expensive, which seems very excessive. Thanks for your help. Re: Cost difference between 20mm & 40mm Ceaserstone / Essast 2Feb 19, 2009 7:06 pm 40 mm Ceaserstone is just two 20 mm slabs along the exposed outside edges. No much material, but then they have to be glued.
When you say 50 more, I assume it's 50% more just for the bench top (not 50% of the entire kitchen ) Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Cost difference between 20mm & 40mm Ceaserstone / Essast 4Feb 19, 2009 9:11 pm get a few quotes if you can. In the 2 quotes I got, the 20mm was similar to each other; but the 40mm varied greatly, I don't know why! One was only a few hundred dollars more, the other was lots more (can't remember the details).

The expense comes from having to carefully glue the extra strip on, cutting the finished edge back to flush then polishing the whole thing up to a virtually seamless finish - a lot more work than just laying out a 20mm slab. Some interesting information about building up edges from Jeremy@SSP.Stones in this https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... 9&start=15 thread. ok just a quick note... the price will vary between stone mason... which in my opinion is a BIG difference... yes sometimes you will get cheaper quotes hear and something more dear there... but also remember...the STONE MASON who you are choosing...will determine the outcome of the kitchen... Cheaper = Not Always But Sometimes Could Mean: Bad Joints Hairline Lines Seen In Laminate Dull Polish Inconsistency with the polish edges Inconsistency in hairline in laminate Odd Fitting on kitchen All in All looks bad More Expensive: well experienced stone mason = show room finish benchtops non the less No lil hairline marks as a pro wouldnt let it happen pretty much, what u get is what you pay for... and jus to answer your question the big price difference... well that comes about from the ammount of work having to be put into a 40mm rather then just a normal 20mm pencil edge.. first 20mm once its cut can be polished straight off the back and sent off to site for installation .... 40mm pencil edge on the other hand, requires strips to be cut, glues to be mixed, then ontop you need a professional stoney to make the laminate come to life..... cuz ive seen amateurs at it...and OMG i wouldnt let them near my factory.... anywayz hope this was of some help to you all !!!
