Donuts ?. The drawers on your island bench, do they or the handles get in the way when your preparing food ?. I'm thinking about a similar thing but can imagine knocking my knees and catching myself all the time. Your kitchen is clean and crisp isn't it? Very noice. Keep them coming girls. thanks pinkfairymagic, the floors are Tasmanian Oak. Yes it looks clean and crisp when it is clean ... believe me it doesn't always look like that!!! It does right now though cause I'm just after cleaning it Re: Show me your kitchen... 23Feb 13, 2009 9:16 pm ozkarnak OTT (off the topic) Donuts ?. Unless I have leave the drawers a little bit open as I seem to have the habit of doing after being used to my mum's soft-closing drawers which close nicely every time. But if they're shut properly the handles are in line with the bench overhang so they don't get in the way. Re: Show me your kitchen... 24Feb 13, 2009 9:36 pm I have lots of drawers nd the same handles as donuts, and I haven't had any probs at all with catching!
You can't see in the photos, but donuts' benchtop is absolutely to die for - gorgeous sparkly bits - so beautiful!!!! It's a really beautiful kitchen...really!!! I can appreciate that it would make a tactile difference by being cooler just curious on the look. Blog: http://thereluctantbuilder.blogspot.com/ Re: Show me your kitchen... 29Feb 13, 2009 10:03 pm I don't think it makes a huge difference to be honest, but I think it makes it look a bit more substantial (for want of a better word?) with the waterfall edges.
It didn't cost me a whole heap more to get 40mm than 20mm. The 20mm has a more minimalist look which some ppl prefer, and I can see why. Joles are you out there? I think she prefers 20mm... sleeker and all that. Re: Show me your kitchen... 30Feb 13, 2009 10:10 pm I've been quoted on 20mm and an extra $1000 for each side a waterfall edge doesn't look like waterfall edge will be in the budget Re: Show me your kitchen... 31Feb 13, 2009 10:31 pm ozkarnak Do you think MM (thickness of stone / CS) makes a visible difference ?. And I love 20mm with water fall edges. It's just a bit different. The 20mm especially looks great if you are thinking about colour. Some of the darker stones can seem quite heavy in 40mm but in 20mm they don't. It's all personal preference... I don't think you can go wrong with any thickness these days. They all look great! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Show me your kitchen... 34Feb 14, 2009 8:11 am I am doing 20mm on the back bench and 40mm on the breakfast bar with waterfall edges. I think it depends on how big your kitchen is too, because my living and dining/kitchen is all in one, I didn't want the benchtop to take over the area. Re: Show me your kitchen... 35Feb 14, 2009 9:04 am We are the exact opposite. This rental has 20mm and whilst it is nice we are having really thick benchtops (a) because I have so much of the darn stuff we need to use it & (b) because the island bench is an integral part of the large open plan room.
Am just about to go to the local HIA Building Centre to decide whether I want 80mm, 100mm or 120mm. Some things are worth waiting for.
