My gf and I were out looking at fridges and we stumbled across a nice side by side model that we liked. I looked up the dimension on the net and they come in at 894mm wide. How much 'breathing space' should I leave on each side? Our current recess in our plans is 896mm, leaving 1mm each side There is plenty of room at the back and on top.... Should I modify? thanks in advance... If not - it makes the adjacent cupboard very hot (I have that situation where I'm renting at the moment - can't store any chocolate in the pantry)
The fridge manufacturer should have recommended ventilation gaps. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Fridge Question 3Feb 08, 2009 2:39 pm Our pidgeon pair fridge/freezer is 1300mm wide, which was ample room for the 1850mm space we had for it. But then we requested the Return Air vent for the heating be moved to that wall (as we didn't want it in the family room) and we thought that we would still have breathing space left.
But when we were reviewing our final floorplan last week, we saw that yes the fridge/freezer would fit, but it would be very tight, with only 50mm space left. And then it dawned on me, l didn't allow for the extra space that the skirting boards would take up!! So we have extended the fridge wall out another 50-100mm to give us a comfortable fit for the fridge freezer and more breathing space. So yep, make your recess larger and take into account the skirting boards too! Re: Fridge Question 4Feb 08, 2009 2:41 pm Cool cool. Thanks very much for the advice guys!

Lots of people get caught out on the fridge space thing. Ryan, you're nearly at site start aren't you? It may be more trouble than it's worth to change your plans. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Fridge Question 6Feb 08, 2009 2:48 pm joles Any dimensions on your plan will be timber dimensions. Yeah you are 100% right on that one. We were just discussing that. Our scrape was last week, so things have already started. We may as well just get a 520L upside down fridge and go with that. Really wanted an ice dispenser but will probably end up buying a portable one. Saw one at HNorman for about 250. I really wish we had have though about all this stuff when we had the chance to change it all. hehehe. Comes part and parcel to being first time builders i suppose. Thanks for the help Joles! Ryan Heh, nothing like scraping the living bajebus out of your walls when you first move in! Thanks for pointing this out, I think I might sus out my fridge hole now, before I go and make any purchases. I had a similar issue with my fridge not too long ago. It wasn't the same model, but the symptoms were pretty much the same: the compressor would start and then stop… 3 7553 You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 9980 I would say both styles you have pictured are steel. The lower chord of the first pic would be a massive lump if made using timber considering the size of the rafters. If… 1 6157 |
