Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 07, 2009 8:37 am i am thinking of buying benchtop straight from a dealer. Unfortunately they do not offer cutting services. I live in the western suburbs of sydney. would you know any tradesmen/company where I can take it to be cut. Is it much cheaper to do it this way or just have a benchtop company installer everything ? any ideas which type of stone is the best? Re: Benchtop cutting services 2Feb 07, 2009 10:32 am I assume you are talking about a stone top ?
Check out the yellow pages & call up a couple of stone top suppliers/wholesalers, not kitchen manufacturer. There are heaps around the Bankstown/Greenacre area. Stone suppliers will have the right cutting saws for this. Actually, can't the guy who is supplying the top, recommend a cutter ?? I will ask if he can recommend someone to cut it if I was to buy. can you recommend what type of stone is the best to use in terms of wear & tear, staining, burns(from pots) . to install a new one from scratch it is about $2000 - 2500 with the size that I want to put in. I am hoping to cut the cost in half by installing it ourselves, just need someone to cut the sink and stove top into the stone. Re: Benchtop cutting services 4Feb 07, 2009 7:35 pm Sorry, not installing stone our selves but sure you'll find a few threads here on the same topic. It has been discussed a fair bit.
Give the search function a try or I'm sure someone here will make a suggestion or two. As for the material, I am no expert but manufactured stone (eg Caesarstone) is very popular these days for looks, durabillity, stain and heat resistance. I HAVE THAT SAW :) 6Feb 19, 2009 8:50 am Hey buddy...
Firstly... for wear and tare... best option is either "Granites" or "Recon Stones" Reason being their more durable and less likely to stain and there very good with heat ect ect. Reason why im not suggesting "marble" is because its a lot softer as a stone product and it does run cracks through out the marble which is within the stone.. look like veins and what not wich makes them beautiful but marble stones are more used for smaller tops like ur vanities or bar area's... floors and facades... and for your cutting situation... I have all the equipement and machinery to do so .... I can cut, polish and install all your tops for you with no problems and quality work... oh one quick question too... once you cut the actual benchtops "if you were to do it yourself" would you polish the edging yourself or would you send it some where to get done... because doin it in a package will save you alotta money compared to half doin it here and there...because ive had a few customers do the same and they end up back in my office asking can you fix my tops i don't know where it went wrong... So to save you time, money and effort go in the ways of a proper stone mason... you can buy the material yourself and take it along if you think it will work out cheaper ... but you have to remember stone mason's always have a link to get material cheaper then public buyers...but then again ...thats jus business... ill leave you my details.. Im in the Sydney South Western Area...actually im in Liverpool im sure you know where that is... so dont hesitate to call ... We can always help whether its just a question or a quote Hopefully this post helped, good luck buddy !
