Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 28, 2009 12:33 pm Hi everyone,
I have been thinking about my splashback and i want it to be a feature in my kitchen. I have chosen this as the splash back but im thinking a stacked stone would be nice too. This is my current selection (the dark silver tile) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Has anyone seen stacked stone as a splashback done? HOME- is where your story begins! Re: Stacked stone as kitchen splash back?? Yes or No?? 2Jan 28, 2009 12:43 pm I haven't seen it done, but my first thought is that it might be very hard to clean, with all the rough lines and uneven surfaces?
nice idea though, it would look great with your other colours! Re: Stacked stone as kitchen splash back?? Yes or No?? 3Jan 28, 2009 12:45 pm Ooooh way too many crevices for things to grow into methinks. At least tiles and glass are easy to wipe down - stack stone is irregular and has many protusions. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Stacked stone as kitchen splash back?? Yes or No?? 4Jan 28, 2009 12:48 pm I think it would be a nightmare to keep clean .... but if you like the look... how about as the back panel of the bench as a feature? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Stacked stone as kitchen splash back?? Good idea joles, I can picture that. Re: Stacked stone as kitchen splash back?? Yes or No?? 7Jan 28, 2009 1:05 pm yeah i was thinking it would be a bit hard to clean, cause if you cook something oily it would splash up onto the stone and would be hard to clean it off.
Someone should create a easy clean stacked stone HOME- is where your story begins! Re: Stacked stone as kitchen splash back?? Yes or No?? 8Jan 28, 2009 1:07 pm if you have your heart set on it - why not get it put behind a clear glass splashback? After 4 years - we're in! Re: Stacked stone as kitchen splash back?? Yes or No?? 9Jan 28, 2009 1:10 pm Even if the surface were stain resistant, it's thetexture of stacked stone that would put me off using it as a s/back. I like Jo's idea, too.

When we started our building journey, we went to a home ideas centre and this is what one displays had. DH and I both loved it (it had down lights under the bench too, lighting up the stackstone), and we were intending to do it. But when we went to do our prestart, they had changed the back of the bench to laminate instead of the standard brick and plaster, so we will no longer do it. Wonder if DH still has the picture he took of it? Re: Stacked stone as kitchen splash back?? Yes or No?? 11Jan 28, 2009 1:22 pm quick question??? what is DA, DD AND all that code stuff? How do you get that ticker thing onto your posts? I have been to that website but can't do it. themax building with the big C, final plans being drawn, packing boxes, choosing colours. Re: Stacked stone as kitchen splash back?? Yes or No?? 16Jan 28, 2009 4:35 pm A friend of mine did beautiful sandstone to her splashback, but having said that, her splashback was only for her kitchen sink & she had a little window in that too.
Anything like sandstone/stone is too porus behind a cooktop.... Re: Stacked stone as kitchen splash back?? Must say I thought of this also, don't think it would work but what a great idea! I'm with everyone else, way too difficult to keep clean. I love stacked stone though, is there anywhere else you could put it as a feature in the kitchen? Re: Stacked stone as kitchen splash back?? Yes or No?? 18Jan 28, 2009 5:18 pm Looks awful ! (At least in that pic). And I can imagine it covered in grease and filth. Yuk. Just forget it. Or put it behind glass as Stonecutter suggeste. But I still think it'd look awful even then. It's too 'busy' for a kitchen. The look doesn't feel right to me. Do the hard jobs first. The easy jobs will take care of themselves. - Dale Carnegie Re: Stacked stone as kitchen splash back??
