Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 27, 2009 11:12 am Hi I have put this in Michelle's forum, but thought I would try here too..
I have just realised that we have 2.5m of breakfast bar that will have the "Alibaster" on the back, the same as our kitchen cupboards.. I would love to change the back of the breakfast bar to be a different colour .. I have looked at other people's pics and thought how nice it is to have the different colour, but they all had island benches.. so I guess I never even thought about adding a different colour to our breakfast bar area, as it is a U shaped kitchen.. Any ideas on how I can now change the colour, as its too late to change the laminate colour with our builder. I would love something like natural fibre wallpaper, or maybe even tack some other laminate over the top - Can this be done?? Any ideas? -Sha Re: Changing the colour of the breakfast bar 2Jan 27, 2009 2:12 pm Is there any chance of just asking your builder to not install the back panel(s)?
If he (or the installer) leaves it off and you don't mind still paying for it it will be VERY simple to get a cabinetmaker (or an online cut to size business) to cut some new board in the finish you want and get it fitted post install. If this is all too hard, it is also a relatively easy operation to remove an existing back and replace it with another one - can be a DIY job or you can try to find a free lance installer who is interested in doing it for you. You can even fix a new sheet of couloured board over the old one (screwing it on from the inside of the cabinets), but this depends a bit on how the end panels of your U design are finished off. All of these options are easier than relaminating an in situ bar back with an overhanging bench, although that too is a moderately doable option...would be my last choice though.
