Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 05, 2007 8:18 pm We are looking at buying a house, but the kitchen is poorly located.
I would like to re-locate the kitchen to an area which is a tiled and on a concrete slab on grade. No access underneath. Brick walls on three sides. I know it is would be relatively expensive to retrofit the kitchen in this area, but how would it be done? Where would the services be run? Dig up the slab and put them there? In the walls? On the exterior walls? Any ideas? Re: Relocating the kitchen 2Feb 05, 2007 8:40 pm Most of the houses being built these days, and on slabs, have the services, gas, water etc coming in through the roof and down into the walls. A lot easier these days and it's all in plastic pipes. If all you can see are obstacles, you have lost sight of the goals Re: Relocating the kitchen 3Feb 05, 2007 8:50 pm Drainage will be your biggest problem.
As Neil said, all the other services can be run down through the walls (as long as they are in the ceiling to begin with). If one of your walls is external (as you seem to suggest) then this would be the wall to run the waste out of - it probably has a window in it as well, so that is always a popular place to put the sink, with the dishwasher nearby if you use one. Trenching a concrete slab is possible, but is very disruptive and not cheap - this would be your last resort. If you have a floorplan that you can post I am sure you will get a few suggestions here. They are all colour coded, very easy to fit, and obviously flexible. If you've got a plumber friend, you could do it yourself and then get him to check it. If all you can see are obstacles, you have lost sight of the goals No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6632 2 4680 that will depend on the kitchen bench depth. you'll have to specify it so it allows for both the tap and the sink 1 7394 |
