Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 20, 2009 6:47 am Last minute panic about my new kitchen sink. I am having granite bench tops and have bought the Oliveri double sink, top mount with no drainer. I loved the look but am now starting to worry that resale will be a problem. Have drainers gone out of fashion? (I love the no drainer look because I like my kitchen to be completely clear and clean). The Oliveri sink does have an attachment that turns one of the double sinks into a drainer but then you can put it away and use the chopping board on the sink instead. Sorry I don't have a photo but hopefully someone else out there has this since too. I got the top mount version (rather than the undermount) because of the issue of grime collecting underneath the edges and also the installer looked a bit doubtful.
Any thoughts on my sink? Would not having a drainer turn off prospective buyers in the future (not for at least 5 years)? Sorry for my neurotic panic but this is actually keeping me awake at night (and I'm not joking!). Re: Anyone got a top mount sink with no drainer? 2Jan 20, 2009 7:37 am Like this one?

When you buy an existing house, there are usually a few minor things that you don't particularly like, but you live with them - or you change them. I doubt that anyone finds the perfect house when they didn't build it themselves. Re: Anyone got a top mount sink with no drainer? 3Jan 20, 2009 7:51 am Hi gersy! Yes, I have 2 round top mount sinks in my kitchen, and one in my WIP, all with no drainer, and I lovce them! I'm the same - I like the clean lines look, too - and I'd rather more of my stone bench than a drainer. WHile not everyone will agree, as kek said, I don't think a thing like that will affect resale value - go for what you love!
As for undermount sinks - I LOVE the look of those (PD don't do them, so I couldn't have had that anyway) but one of my friends has one, and she doesn't love it b/c of what you mentioned - the grime collects under the stone btw it and the sink top. Many minor details like this about your house are personal opinion - buyers would probably have their own tastes and preferences about every potential house they look at buying; some major things might put them off, like floor plan way different to what they want, other things they will change or live with - I'm sure sinks come into one of the latter categories Re: Anyone got a top mount sink with no drainer? 5Jan 20, 2009 8:22 am I have this one from Abey

It also looks fantatsic IMHO But...all to do with personal taste. Helyn - every time I see your avatar, it cracks me up!!! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Anyone got a top mount sink with no drainer? 9Jan 20, 2009 12:09 pm We are getting an undermount sink with no drainer basically, as other have said, for the clean lines. I must admit when we made the selection we were unaware of the grime problem; I guess we will have to keep an eye on it.
gersy1964, do you have a dishwasher as well? This might help offset your concerns as I think it is less of an issue if you do. Trying to predict what a potential buyer is going to like/dislike about your home in 5 years is really going to do your head in. Spend half an hour on any real estate web site and you wil see what I mean re variety of tastes; how could anyone predict what some of these people are going to want in 5 years time, lol? As for Helyn's avatar, could definitely be me at about 5pm after doing the house-dad thing all day .... arghhh! Had no problems at all. I would love to do the same in this build but we are going through a project builder so just the basic for us. Having no drainer wasnt a problem as we had a dishwasher also. Re: Anyone got a top mount sink with no drainer? 13Jan 20, 2009 1:25 pm Won't they let you do it as an "upgrade", Kylie? We built with PD, and as long as we were prepared to pay for that , they were happy to do it - we just had to pick sinks from the supplier they use. Maybe you could ask? Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Anyone got a top mount sink with no drainer? 14Jan 20, 2009 1:39 pm I am having the undermount sinks, because I love the clean look and I don't care about grime, there will be no grime in my sink and I don't wash glasses, that's what the dishwasher is for....and if someone doesn't buy my house because of my no drainer policy, I don't care about that either I am in a very "don't care" frame of mind today and guess what... I DON'T CARE! Re: Anyone got a top mount sink with no drainer? 15Jan 20, 2009 5:34 pm I never even thought about a no drainer sink, but now that I've seen them, I love the look. I HATE dishes sitting on the sink anyway, and I think it would be an extra incentive for my family to WASH, DRY AND PUT YOUR DAMN DISHES AWAY - I'M NOT YOUR SLAVE, YOU KNOW!!
*ahem* Sorry..... Re: Anyone got a top mount sink with no drainer? 16Jan 20, 2009 7:29 pm kek I never even thought about a no drainer sink, but now that I've seen them, I love the look. You go kek, I am with you Re: Anyone got a top mount sink with no drainer? 17Jan 20, 2009 7:46 pm Hi gersy
We've also gone the Oliveri double sink without drainer. It's still in the box since we're half way through building but this is what we thought - you've got two decent sinks for washing up if necessary (dishwasher for most), but the main reason is that you can put the dirty just-used dishes in one of the sinks so they're not so visible as sitting on the bench or on the drainer. Anyway, things can go straight in the dishwasher if it's a problem. I can't wait to see it in our new kitchen, and we've gone for top mount too. Enjoy it! Re: Anyone got a top mount sink with no drainer? 18Jan 20, 2009 9:42 pm Wow, everyone - thank you all so much for the feedback. Much better than the tea-room at work! To those who asked, yes indeed I am having a lovely new dishwasher as well, so I don't anticipate any dishes ****** around cluttering up my clean bench and sink. Another week and a bit until my new kitchen installation but I think I will be able to sleep now without worrying about my choice in sink.
