Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 16, 2009 10:21 pm I've picked out these tiles/laminates for the Kitchen. Whilst l'm happy with them, when l was with the building consultant today nutting out the floorplan changes, l decided to get the optional sheen finish for the cupboards. And truthfully, l dunno if that included the benchtop also. I just assumed it was only for the cabinets.
If that's the case, I'm now not sure whether the benchtop will still work whether and am thinking maybe something a tad darker may be better or perhaps to match one of the tones in the border tile?? From Left Ceramica Floor Tile (Duomo), Splashback Tile in a very light beige (250x200). Kitchen cabinets are Laminex Twine and the Benchtop is Formica Sand Crystal. On top is the border/feature tile. We're also going with SS appliances. Any comments and colour suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Re: Advice/Comments on my Tile & Laminate Selection 3Jan 17, 2009 4:21 pm I think you may be right about having the bench top a bit darker. Your current border tile and bench top may compete with each other. Maybe try a plainer benchtop and make the feature tile the feature or keep the benchtop as a feature and choose a plainer feature tile. Does that make sense? Your colours are very similar to mine. Check out my bathroom selections! Look familiar?

It looks like your feature tile in your pic is the same as whats going in my ensuite l'm quite set on keeping that feature tile (so l keep the consistent theme throughout the home) so l'm definitely leaning towards changing the benchtop to darker and plainer benchtop. Thanks donuts.....the cabinets are the light beige sample....l said it was Twine, but it is actually Stone Beige....Twine is going in the ensuite....must make sure that l get my colours right when it comes time to submitting them to the cabinet maker! lol Re: Advice/Comments on my Tile & Laminate Selection 5Jan 17, 2009 9:44 pm for reason clients of mine have been choosing travertine by crea
i have no reason as to y but it seems to be in the water at the moment. Ive seen it in a few mags and looks quite attractive. It looks like a limestone without the granity/small stone look The colours you have choosen look great together, well done Kitchens are like finger prints, no two are ever the same!! Ok l take that back big time! lol....after seeing the kitchen consultant on Friday to organise my colours and look for an alternative benchtop, after discounting many ofthem, she goes out the back, comes back and says what about this?? It was the Crea Travertine! Which l went with. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ But, after l got home and all day yesterday, l still didn't have that "100% satisifed with my choice" feeling everytime l looked at the samples. The doubt was really bugging me. Although the above pic makes it looks good, in real life it doesn't. So I decided that l would have to either change the benchtop again or pick a new feature tile....I did the latter this morning. I took a couple of photos of the new feature tile at the tile shop. They are from my mobile so they didn't come up that good. But, the colours work so much better now and l like that l've kept the feature tiles throughout the home in the same style Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Thanks for the suggestion, it turned out to be a great one! lol Re: Advice/Comments on my Tile & Laminate Selection 11Jan 25, 2009 12:03 pm Good choice. We are building with Alatalo in Golflinks Estate. What about you where is your block and what stage are you up too now? How are you finding gj lewis? We are building with Alatalo in Golflinks Estate. What about you where is your block and what stage are you up too now? How are you finding gj lewis? I really like Alatalo Bros, they have some beautiful plans...we almost went with them at one stage, l think it was the Scarborough plan we liked. Though the price put us off (though their quality deserves the price tag) but more importantly we really wanted a steel frame home. Beautiful estate Golflinks is, l bet your chuffed We're building at the other end of town...in Riverview Estate. We're still in the very early stages....had my appointment today to finalise the floorplan and pick remaining colours. Sign contracts in 3 weeks assuming the tender comes back ok. Plans to council in mid March. So yeah, a fair way to go before the first sod of soil gets turned. GJ Lewis have been fantastic, very flexible with most things we've asked for. We've also found their main suppliers (Boral, Floorworld, TileMart, B & B Joinery etc) to be just as fantastic to deal with. How about you? How have you found Alatalo? Have far along are you with your build? Re: Advice/Comments on my Tile & Laminate Selection 20Feb 02, 2009 7:15 am Hi thorney,
Very happy with Alatalo, nothing has been too much trouble! Cant believe how quick things have happend though. We settled on the block on 13th jan and that day it was scraped and pegged out and the pumbing was in the next day. The day after slab was boxed up and by the 6th day the slab was poured. by the 10th day the garage was bricked up and the frame done! Nothing much has happened this last week I think it has been too hot to work on the roof. Hopefully this week the gutters and facia will be on. I wanted a steel frame too and was going to build with gj but the discount on the house and land package with alatalo swayed us. I designed my own house and drew up the plans too scale and alatalo prepared them for council. Think it may well become an alatalo plan now though! never mind at least I get the house I want They initialy told us 100 working days which would have taken us to about june but we are the first cab off the rank after xmas so we are hoping to be in by mid may. There seems a long wait before you start. Our plans went to council and we had them back in 2 days, I think it was because they were the first ones they had in after xmas.
