Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 13, 2009 6:32 am I am having 600 x 600 porcelain tiles on the floor.
I was thinking of cutting some and having 600 x 300 layed horizontaly for the splashback. It would only be 2 tiles high then and I also may have a problem of having to fit a smaller piece for the height requirement between benchtops. unless I can find a feature tile to fill this space. It is a long galley kitchen. Would I be better off cutting them smaller in depth say 600 x 200 or 250and putting a border in or leaving the border. Would it look funny having the same as floor tiles for the spashback. I would most prob use the same through the rest of the house and have same tiles on wall in bathrooms. Would this look too much? Any opinions will be good. Our living area floor tile is 600 x 300 and so is our kitchen wall tile, however both were available in 600 x 600 and 300 x 300. It might save you having to do lots of cutting!
We have 2 rows of 600 x 300 porcelain tiles (laid horizontal) in an off-white/light cream colour in our current house, and they look really good. They are rectified porcelain so only have a small grout joint. A 600mm high splashback (two rows) is fantastic, and if you add a 50mm border or extra tile piece, the wall will be tiled up to the rangehood (if you have one!). I will be doing the same in my new house I am building. Sorry, no pic as camera died! As for using the same tiles throughout, no one will even notice if the rooms are spread throughout the house. We have the same floor and wall tile, and cabinets, in the bathroom, laundry and ensuite, with a similar shade throughout the living area. I spoke to the tile shop today and they said why not put 600 x 600 as the splashback the same as the floor? The cabinet place said as I am having elec cooktop the space between the overheads and base needs to be 608mm I am also going for the rectified porcelain tiles with little grout lines so it will be very close making this big tile fit. It would me a 4mm grout line top and bottom!
