Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 06, 2009 6:56 am Guys,
We've just settled on an old house and the entire kitchen needs a total work out. i've attached pictures of how it looks at the momment. pic 1 - layout door at corner of kitchen leading to the stairs was closed, door still there but was close to make a bigger space i think. it's in a U-shape approximately measuring 3.2M x 2M x 2.5M pics 2 / 3 are the existing kitchen. my plans: altternative 1. remove the hallway wall, open the door, oven will be located in the same spot as it is now, island pantry between kitchen and dining and ceiling to floor cabinet on the right side wall of the kitchen up to the dining area. alternative 2. retain existing U-shape, but extend the hallway wall to make room for a fridge cavity. any input/ideas will be appreciated. Looks like you've some hard work ahead With your measurements, can you add the width of the hallway you'd like to open up in to? Also, with the door is it tucked behind the stove in the corner? Edit- sorry just read that you'd like to keep the wall between the hallway Re: Ideas to improve this kitchen 4Jan 06, 2009 4:39 pm Hi Crossback,
I have just been trying to put together an idea for your kitchen and wanted to confirm that I have got the dimensions right - does this diagram correctly represent your available space or should the wall lengths be the other way around? - and do you want that door reopened? yes, i would love to open the door, keeps the place a little bit aerated, i guess. Thanks Earl. Re: Ideas to improve this kitchen 6Jan 07, 2009 7:17 am Hi Crossback - I just did a bit more playing with this design and am a bit concerned about the width of the room.
Are you sure it is only 2000mm? As you can see by my layout if we put in what is now "normal" 600mm wide benchtops and/or cabinets along either side you would only have 800mm walkspace in between. I can understand that the exisiting kitchen is built with narrower cabinetry but even taking that into account that "back"wall still looks a bit wider than 2000. Please correct me if I'm wrong - but if it is 2000mm it is going to be an interesting rebuild - you might have to look at installing narrower cabinets, although this introduces all sorts of problems with appliances and sinks especially the firdge. See how you go. Cheers, Earl Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Ideas to improve this kitchen 8Jan 08, 2009 10:39 am wow its amazing to see how far kitchens have come.
I have just taken on a job of remodeling a similar styled kitchen and the transformation will totally change their space. Make sure you take before, during and after shots for your builder/maker/designer as this make s a good show and tell piece:) Kitchens are like finger prints, no two are ever the same!! SmartPack did the kitchens for Channel 9's Home Made TV Show I would say both styles you have pictured are steel. The lower chord of the first pic would be a massive lump if made using timber considering the size of the rafters.
