Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 05, 2009 7:26 am I am expecting installation of my new kitchen mid January however I still have not picked the knobs/handles. Benchtop is black galaxy granite, Doors are antique white with a square profile, appliances are stainless steel and the floor will be timber flooring or vinyl planks. The house is approx 25 yrs, traditional looking two story brick and the really modern stainless long bar type handles would just look wrong. Anyone got any suggestions? Photos of your own handles would be great. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 2Jan 05, 2009 9:29 am I might not be much help but I just wanted to say that in every display home I went into that had profile doors they all had the round knob handles. Some were plain and some a bit more decorative.
If you look at page 28 in Rikster's thread he has knob handles too https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=6236&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=405 H2B Happy at Home Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 3Jan 05, 2009 9:35 am http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=6236&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=405 <-- my copy of the link is clickable.
if you look at Ricksters posting on the page house-to-be mentioned he has knob handles in his kitchen but the bow shaped ones in his laundry. we are having these bow shaped ( d handles) but it a black nickel colour. Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 4Jan 05, 2009 9:39 am I hate to be dense, but how exactly do I find page 28 of Riksters thread? I found Rikster (and very attractive looking he is) but sadly I am clueless after that. Please help. Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 5Jan 05, 2009 9:40 am If you click on my copy of the ricksters link it opens at page 28. then just scroll down to see 2 different door handle examples in a house. Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 6Jan 05, 2009 9:59 am Well done kexkez, not sure why my links aren't clickable anymore. They aren't working in my emails either......... Like your new avatar too Happy at Home Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 7Jan 05, 2009 10:32 am thanks HTB I'm not too keen on the hand on hip bit but that was the way it came and I'm too lazy to be bothered modifying it. Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 8Jan 05, 2009 10:42 am Hey thanks for the help to find Rikster and yes that settles the knob/handle debate. But what about THAT house? Fantastic looking, I want that house! (and actually Rikster sounds pretty good too!). Absolutely best photos I have ever seen of a real persons home. Outstanding in every detail. Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 9Jan 15, 2009 12:14 pm Well, what can I say !
Many thanks for the nice comments. We do love living there very much. It turned out a lot better than I imagined it would. It's mainly to do with my wife's excellent taste & attention to detail. The avatar is sadly not me... it's James Bond. Cheers Rikster We are loving living in our new home ! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... &start=315 Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 10Jan 16, 2009 10:00 pm I had decided on routed 2 pack satin doors in my kitchen and hadnt given much thought about the handles until today when I had my appointment with the cabinet maker.
I dont like knobs and prefer the bar look, but he said you usually have knobs with routed doors. Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 12Jan 17, 2009 4:54 am Thats the handle I have picked too.
I suppose its not what you should have its what you like that you should go for. A new kitchen is still going to look lovely no matter what handles you put on. I wanted those large ones laid vertical on my overheads but cabinet maker suggested smaller vertical ones. What way are you doing yours. Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 13Jan 17, 2009 9:51 am Rikster The avatar is sadly not me... it's James Bond. Rikster We had originally picked the bar handles similar to what WBA will have. They were not what I really wanted but we had no choice as they were the only handles our builder provided that came in a long enough length to go on our 900mm wide pot drawers. It bugged me for months and so I ended up asking our SS if our kitchen could come without handles which he agreed to. We ended up buying our own handles from www.handlehouse.com.au and my DH will install them when he returns from OS. I think handles are actually a pretty big thing to choose........ Gersy, did you end up going with the knob? Happy at Home Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 14Jan 17, 2009 11:28 am i agree house to be,
We had a friend who put in handles similar to the above and she hates them because all her t-shirts always get hooked onto them as she goes to walk off. I know it wouldn't happen to everyone, and heaps of people prolly have no problems with them, but we are getting the long rectangular 3/4" wide bars and hoping we will be 100% happy with ours. It is hard to pick though when there are so many knobs and handles out there Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 15Jan 17, 2009 12:06 pm Darn I wish I'd thought to say no handles we'll do them ourselves. rats what a good idea. I'm worried our handles will look silly on the pot drawers because they only come in the small size i think. Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 17Jan 17, 2009 1:23 pm Wow - this is amazing - I sparked a whole debate about kitchen handles - I just KNEW it couldn't only be me who was obsessing over them! What a relief!
Because my house is 25 yrs old and very traditional in style, the new kitchen will be traditional looking too. The bar type handles just won't work for me (I am going a very simple knob). I don't know if this is helpful, but someone I work with, gave me the advice that if you were having a spectacular benchtop, then keeping the knobs simple was the way to go. If on the other hand, you are having a really plain kitchen, then make the knobs spectacular. Basically she said, it's really overkill to have "too much going on at once" and that it detracts from the overall look. Sounded pretty convincing to me, so that's what I'm doing! Good luck everyone else - would LOVE to see photos of everyone's kitchen. I think ours are about 1cm. We have alot of handles on the exterior wall (14) so we didn't want to go to thick. kexkez Darn I wish I'd thought to say no handles we'll do them ourselves. rats what a good idea. Kexkez, can you ask for kitchen to come without and do your own or supply other handles to your kitchen place for them to install? SuH, I think the kitchen in that photo looks really nice, very modern. I actually quite like the handles being almost the same width/length as the cupboard. Good luck in making a decision! Gersy, for those who know me well know how much I obsessed over our handles. I wanted them all horizontally but then my overheads were different so I changed to vertical, then realised I didn't really like the bar handles or want them vertical........... I just need my Husband to come home and put them on. Although in saying that I actually really like the look of the kitchen without them I think the simple knobs with your profile cupboard doors will be the way to go. You'll have to post some photos when it's all done Happy at Home Re: Show me your handles and knobs (please)! 19Jan 17, 2009 3:59 pm I get snagged on the round knobs.. so I don't think any are exempt from snagging except if you have no handles!!
